"I contacted David Cox at Slabjacker 2 days ago to tell him of the problem I had with a set of brick steps that had sunk more than 4 inches from their original position and a part of my walkway to the house had raised and angled providing a potential fall hazard. <br /> He quoted me the price on the spot. Two days later his crew showed up on time and commenced to drill two holes directly under the brick steps and using their concrete mixture that was in a motorized cart they hydraulically pumped the mix under the bricks and raised them to their original position within minutes.  They repeated this process with my walk way and within minutes it looked like my walkway had never had a problem.  <br /> They quickly and efficiently cleaned up, plugged the bore holes and were on their way. <br />"

"<blockquote> <br /> We called Archdeck due to high rating on Angie's List.  Mr. Ward, the owner, came over and did an estimate.  A couple of days later, he brought over a very comprehensive contract  with a sheet of paper that detailed all that his company would do. He also brought a drawing of what the finished project would look like.  He gave us an approximate start date of about three weeks in the future and said that the work itself would take about 4 days. <br /> About two weeks later, he called and said that his crew could start the next day if we were ready.  They actually came over and did a bit of work that afternoon.  The whole project took 3 and a half days.  His team showed up by 0900 every day and worked steadily and with precision.   <br /> Every single gentleman who worked on our deck was polite and friendly.  Mr. Ward himself came on the last day and did a lot of work himself.  The clean-up was perfect. <br /> We are extremely happy with our deck.  The deck is sturdy and beautiful. <br /> Mr. Ward is a wonderful craftsman whose pride in his work is justified.   I can wholeheartedly recommend him without reservation.  </blockquote> <br />"

"We had some difficulty making contact and getting scheduled; but that was partially due to the time of year. Once scheduled, they were prompt, worked consistently (a full 3 day job, a long drive), did a high quality job. We originally were planning on just re-asphalting, but decided to change to concrete. We did not have an easy drive to do; but they took care of all the unusual needs, went above and beyond, and did an excellent job. We have gotten many compliments. I would, and have, recommend them in a second. If there was an A+, I would give it. Thank you for your conscientious and good work, Conners!"

"Joshua knocked out what I needed in a very timely manner and kept in contact every step of the way. Answers email and phone calls in a prompt and professional manner. Will most definitely use him again as I progress on this property. In my opinion went beyond what I expected. First time in a long time I felt like I got my moneys worth out of a contractor. Highly recommend for all your excavating needs. <br />"

"Dillion and BJ are exceptional at what they do! They are friendly, courteous, professional and above all else, honest. My porch looks amazing. It was done quicker than I expected. I am a single mom so sometimes these things can be stressful when letting someone into your home but they were wonderful from the start. I will definitely be calling them for all my future projects."

"We expanded a ground floor family room, which required complete exterior and interior construction, with stacked stone to match existing exterior. Existing plumbing, electrical, and duct work had to be moved around. The room has a 5x10 closet with pull-down attic door and insulted attic above. A bay build-out added space to our dining room, and we added a walk-in pantry to the kitchen. Materials were included in the total price but not broken out. The contractor underestimated either the amount of stone needed or the cost of the (available) stone required to match the existing exterior. He covered about $400 of the additional materials cost; we covered about $1000 at his request. Lesson learned: In the contract, stipulate the dollar amount designated for special materials. Other than that and some slow downs due to occasional absent workers, the job went as planned and we're happy with the result. We appreciated the daily clean-up as it was a lengthy project and just living with the upheaval was at times a challenge. Mark had a cleaning crew come one weekend to help keep things in order."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Lake City, TN

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
