"RECOMMENDATION of Garden Artisans We contacted Garden Artisans and several landscape companies near Princeton for consultation regarding replacement of aged rhododendrons, azaleas and evergreen shrubs damaged by wet and heavy snows in recent years. Garden Artisans was the first to reply to our inquiries and immediately scheduled a Saturday survey and consultation. Peter Jamet, the owner, came and discussed our objectives, and budget. We have a colonial home sited on a corner lot on 3 acres with old growth hardwoods in Princeton. As we don������������t have deer fencing and do have deer, we wanted deer-proof landscaping and natural looking plantings. Within a week of the consultation Peter was ready to make a present his design proposal. He brought scales drawings of the plantings across the front and side of our house and a bed near the driveway entrance surrounding our carriage lamppost and mailbox. Together with the drawings he had photos of every tree species, shrub, flower and grass proposed for the plantings. He described why he had chosen them. Part of his plan of scale and distribution was to create color throughout the seasons and evergreen color sustained throughout the year with certain elements of the planting. He has tailored the cost to our budget and offered both upgrade options and cost saving options for each of the specimen trees. He recommended the ideal time for planting so as to get the plantings successfully established before the winter. We set a date and Peter with his crew came and prepared the plot exactly as scheduled. Two weeks before the planting he provided photos of the exact specimen trees and shrubs to be installed. Once the beds were prepared Peter again came to position the specimens personally and ask our review and approval before actually putting the plants in the ground. Immediately after the planting we were taking a three week holiday and Peter provided attending and watering to ensure the health our new landscaping. He again came, unprompted and reviewed all the shrubs six weeks after planting. The plantings are now ten weeks in the ground and every plant is in excellent condition. We are extremely pleased with the design and selected species. It has been a pleasure working with Garden Artisans. The work was done exactly on schedule and was professional and very careful in removing old shrubbery and cleaning up and reseeding areas not to be replanted. The entire job was done within our budget in a very artfully conceived, professional and carefully planned manner. We have owned several homes and done projects of this scale but have never had this level of precision and care in the design, selection of specimens, planting and after-care. In other projects we have experienced a number of trees and shrubs dying within weeks of the planting and have had to pay to replace them. "Everything was excellent. The team identified the hole in our pool liner. On the day of replacing the liner, identified a potentially severe issue with the structure of the pool. Provided a recommendation for a replacement pool. Proceeded to remove the old pool and excavate the land in preparation for construction of the new pool. Once the new pool arrived, they constructed the pool and constructed new outline landscaping around the pool. "We purchased it at a special rate of #399.00 for 6 hours of work.  When we found out he only could do 1/4 of the work we asked for a price and it was $600.00 for another 6 hours.  we paid it and found out he had completed the work in 3 hours then left.  he was suppose to return to clean up the weeds he didn't get the first time but went on vacation then by the time he returned new weeds had grown an he said he was not responsible for them.   Anyway we paid him then just walked away from this deal.

"Well, I scheduled well in advance fr 8:30 on the Tuesday morning. At 10:00 I called because nobody had called or shown up and I had to leave for work. I was asked if I still wanted someone to come out because it was cold and it had rained the day before. I said "yes" and I was told two guys would be there in about a half hour. 45 minutes later a truck pulled up in front of my house and two guys sat there until 11 when they got out and told me they had the wrong street number and were not sure which house to go to. Well, they were very nice and I told them exactly what I wanted done. When I had to leave for work, I told them the existing leaves on the grass did not have to be done if they ran out of time because I could pick ten up with my lawn mower. I came home after dark and the next day was very excited to look at my back yard leaf free. The perimeter of the yard where the beds were was mostly leaf free, but what they did was blow all the leaves from the back yard onto the grass, leaving  leaves as much as a foot deep in places which was way too much for my little lawnmower to handle. I tried calling Brett and left him a message telling him my concerns. Later in the afternoon my husband and I decided to tackle the daunting job of removing all the leaves. After about two hours, we got the grass totally free of leaves and made a huge pile of leaves in the back corner of the yard and in addition took out 10 bags of leaves to the curb. Brett did call me back and when he heard what happened was very apologetic and volunteered to come back out. I told him it would be very nice if they would like to haul off all the leaves we had gathered. He said he would be by Saturday. On Saturday they showed up just as I was leaving the house and I was very pleased....until I came home! They very kindly had decided to not only haul off the huge pile of leaves that I had created from the wrk I had done, but they decided they did not get all the leaves in the flower beds the previous time so they would get them this time. So, they blew all the remaining leaves onto the grass which at that point had not even one leaf on it, and left me a yard full of leaves to get rid of - again! So back to the yard I went to mow and rake the leaves up, and in some spots they were taller than the front of the lawnmower so I had the problem again of picking them up. So, are they nice? Absolutely. Were they willing to come back at no charge to fix up their mess? Absolutely. Did they fix the problem? Well, partially by removing all the gahered leaves in the back, but in the interim, they recreated the first problem. I feel bad not giving them rave reviews because Brett and the other two workers seemed genuinely nice. But three hours of leaf raking after paying $199 to have it done just does not make me want to give them rave reviews.
