"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"Work went well; however, my windows are not as sound proof or energy efficient as I thought they would be so Rolox will be coming back out to check on their installation. My check was lost in the mail and I received harassing and threatening calls and Rolox was about to put a lien on my house and charge me a $495 fee and 24% interest rate but halted when they received my reissued check that I had previously indicated to them was in the mail when they continued to keep calling asking for payment."

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. Mr. Haas stayed in contact with us for more than a month to ensure that any questions or issues we had were addressed."

"We met James at the Salina Home Show and loved the concrete countertop samples he had.  He came out to our home a few days later to walk us through the process, give us an estimate, and discuss our style/color preferences.  A week later he came over to install the countertops.  He had the whole job complete and cleaned up in a day and a half.  We couldn't be happier with the finished and his professionalism! <br />"

"They were very good and professional. The measuring was well done and they did not get more materials than needed. They made sure that the skirts around the skylights were sealed correctly so they would not leak. The process was also very quick; they finished in one day. They also cleaned up everything nice and neat. The crew was large, which helped with the quickness and the clean up."

"Shane showed up about 20 minutes late, but was very polite and worked quickly. He gave me some tips about proper usage of my type of fireplace, and pointed out some potential repair needs that I hadn't noticed. He corrected an issue that I needed to fix, but didn't know how, and was very professional about it all. I didn't ask about a price when I called, so when I was billed, it seemed a bit high, as I don't really notice much of a difference, but others tell me it was a normal fare. He also included an inspection as part of the service. <br />"

"The damage occurred during the May 22, 2011 tornado that hit Joplin, MO. We were not aware of the damage until Midwest approached us to do an inspection. We let them inspect and we called our insurance company to do an inspection. Both entities said we had severe damage and needed a new roof. Midwest was inundated with repairs throughout the city, so did not get started until 2 months after the inspection. When they did start, they were finished in 3 days! Plus, they cleaned up their mess including using a powerful metal detector to get as many nails as possible. Three of my landscape plants were damaged, but I was able to save them. The workers were mostly Hispanic and couldn't speak much English, but we could communicate some. They were polite and worked 10 or more hours a day to complete the project. There was a follow up inspection and we requested the window flashing be painted the same color as the trim and they did this. Our cost was what we had to pay after insurance (total price was close to $15,000) and it all went just fine. We were very pleased and would use them again."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Lancaster, KS

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
