"In 2020 and 2021, our asphalt-shingled roof leaked and we had it repaired. The repairer said that our roof should have been first covered with ½” plywood before the shingles had been attached. That’s why the shingles were failing after only 17 years. After the second leak, we decided that we did not want to risk another repair cycle. But who should we hire ? We thought about getting “the best price,” but that’s how we got our last roofer. This time we relied on an established company, Community Roofing and Restoration. We had seen the company install roofs all around the East Side and, in fact, the founder, Jim Godsil had helped install sky lights on our roof back in 1980. Also, the company was highly rated by many homeowners at Angi. So in December, 2021 we called Community Roofing and Restoration to replace our roofs (now the house and garage) in the spring. We also had the gutters replaced and two skylights installed. All went very well. There were a few minor problems regarding small details but the company was quick to oblige. Indeed, the roofing and gutter crews were quite skilled and their teamwork was impressive. Also, everyone was courteous and helpful. I cut the rafter tails and Over The Top installed them at no extra charge, they even re-roofed the dog house with left over shingles for no extra charge (I was going to do that myself). "I hired Exact Exteriors to tear down a run down 3 season room to create a 400 foot deck. This meant tear down, building a deck, gutters and siding. "The job went well, though was not without challenges. Jim dealt with each as needed, in a professional and customer-centric manner. The biggest reason I wanted to hire Jim's company (aside from stellar reviews on Angie's List) was because of his ventilation certification. We had horrible ice dams in 2018-19 and didn't want a repeat this year. Jim assessed our house (built 1927) and installed air intake vents and a ridge vent to help alleviate this problem. The new gutters he installed were rerouted from the old design so as to minimize flow and drainage problems we had experienced. If you need roofing work - and especially if you've had ice dam problems - you should have Jim evaluate evaluate your property."
