"We were quite pleased.  I reached a live operator at John B. Ward & Co. and requested a bid.  Within 24 hours I received a call back from certified arborist Ken Hutz.  Ken and I arranged an appointment to view the job.  Ken was prompt and professional.  He clearly communicated answers to my questions.  The very next day I received a written estimate.  When I inquired as to liability and worker's comp insurance, he immediately stated he would email to me the certificate of liability insurance, which he did within 24 hours .  That certificate named me as the certificate holder.   Of the six bids I received for the work, Ward was in the middle. I asked for references and  Ken immediately gave me two references (one for the Chief Arborist  at Haverford College and the other at Chanticleer).  I spoke with the Haverford College reference, and received a glowing report.  The arborist assured me that Haverford has the oldest campus arboretum in the country and that Haverford standards are very high - and that Ward's crews are the only ones who work on their trees, and in particular he spoke highly of their training.  Impressed, I verbally committed to Ken.  Ken explained that he wanted a particular crew and would it be ok if he called me the next Friday  to confirm a job date on the following Monday.  I said fine.  Ken called me on Friday, and we arranged to do the job on Monday.   Three guys arrived - two trimmers (one who had just received his ISA Arborist certificate) and a helper to pick up branches.  Ken arrived soon after (as he said he would) and we went over the job.  The trimmers were very pro-active - before starting to trim the Willow Oaks they explained to us the general  cuts that they were planning - and listened to our feedback.   At the start of the day I realized that I had not specified the 25' white pine be cut down - so I asked Ken if they could do it and expressed my hope that they wouldn't charge me extra.  He said "no problem , we'll take care it it."  And they did, no extra charge - I thought that was very good customer service.  Crew worked steadily, and took reasonable breaks.   Ken stopped back 3 times during the day,   Work commenced around 8:15 am and was done around 3.   All debris removed.  And these trimmers are amazing.  They climb up very high in the trees like it was nothing at all and slice off branches.  Quite impressive.   Only thing not quite correct was that next day I rang Ken wondering if he could take a look at one of the trimming jobs (I wondered if a bit more could be taken off). Ken said he would do so, both next day and about 3 weeks later when it was fully leafed out.  He left a card next day - but as far as I know he didn't stop back 3 weeks later.  In any case, all the trees look great. "

"The Estimate: <br /> When Dan came out for an estimate, he told me that I could probably handle seeding/fertilizing my small front and back yards by myself.  But he gave me a price if I wanted him to do it anyway.  His price for putting down gravel on the side yard was lower than an estimate I had gotten previously, so I hired him for both jobs.  He also happily answered my numerous novice lawn/yard questions. <br /> The Work: <br /> Dan came and seeded/fertilized the front and back yards on the agreed upon date. <br /> The day before the gravel work was scheduled Dan e-mailed to let me know that his workers would be arriving late the next day due to another job.  I appreciated the heads-up.  The day after the majority of the gravel was installed Dan came by himself to finish up the side yard. <br /> In the contract I signed with him, it said that the company would put down more seed if the lawn was still patchy/bare after 2 weeks of watering for 15 minutes each day.  I diligently watered the lawn for the 2 weeks and noticed some bare patches but wasn't sure if it warranted a callback for more seed.  Well, Dan took the initiative and added more seed to my lawn after he had finished up the gravel work on the side yard.  And finally, he answered still more of my lawn/yard questions. <br /> I was very happy with his service and am a very satisfied customer.  I would definitely hire him again for future landscape jobs. <br />"

"We have a contract with them and so they just come out and do the fertilization. They don't even knock on the door, they just send a note saying they are coming and we get a bill once they are done. If we feel like we need some trimming or they think that some trimming needs to be done then we contact each other. Our trees are very happy so whatever they are doing, they are doing right. They do quality work and they do what they say they are going to do. The workers were very polite and nice, they cleaned up after themselves. I don't see them too often though. I would recommend them."
