"Excellent company. From the sales associate, Lowell, to the crew, Henry and Raphael: everyone was very professional and respectful. Lowell explained what I needed and didn't try to sell me on work I didn't want. The crew did an excellent job installing the gutters and even removed and installed a small rain gutter and barrel to the shed at back of property. I will definitely hire Valley Roofing when it comes time for a new roof."

"We are very happy with our project completed by Strong Tower. We needed work done on a remodel to include installing, finishing and painting drywall, installing floors, kitchen cabinets, shower and bath, and lighting. Carlos and his team worked diligently to complete the project well before our deadline. Carlos is very communicative and was great with keeping us informed on his progress and any obstacles he encountered. We are very happy with the quality of the team’s workmanship. They kept the home clean and in order after every day they worked. We previously hired them to install a new side porch as well as add a wire railing system on 3 porches, and we were also very happy with that. We highly recommend Strong Tower Home Improvements and look forward to working with them again!"

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"When Dennis came over, I watched him climb up on the roof. He inspected the damaged areas and he showed me ( by flexing his boot against the rotten wood underneath ) that things were worse off than I thought. Down on the ground, Dennis explained to me what was wrong ( boards underneath some sections had gone bad, flushing was improperly done, needed vent was not installed by previous roofers ), and did so in a way that I understood what he was saying, even though I am not carpentry-inclined. Some time later, he returned with his crew and they got the whole job done in two days. New roof, new boards, new flushing, new boots, new vent- and on the quoted budget of thirty-six hundred dollars. Everyone on the crew was quite friendly, especially Dennis. They cleaned up when they were done, and I liked that he made his roofers wear a safety harness- a lot of less reputable roofers in the area do not do this. My one and only complaint is that it can be a bit hard to get ahold of Dennis. Sometimes it made me feel like he wasn't interested in the work, or that I'd be lost in the shuffle... but he's such a nice guy that I know it wasn't intentional. He's just very busy. If you do contract these guys, keep in mind that it will take them a little while to get back to you."

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. Mr. Haas stayed in contact with us for more than a month to ensure that any questions or issues we had were addressed."

"Got to say, these guys were great. Donnie Shanks, the owner, put up with a bunch of questions and weeks of indecision. Very knowledgeable and patient. Came when he said he would, told me which fellows would be coming to install system, everyone was courteous and efficient. Had had 3 estimates (all really nice guys I wanted to give my business to) which proved similar for heat pump but Natural Bridge was less expensive for the heat pump/gas furnace option. Have heard from friends that they are very responsive when there's a problem. Would recommend without hesitation."

"... After studying their High Quality work on a friend's 2nd Story Sunroom and Dining Room... My Bride and I decided that we wanted this little company in Salem to build our Dream Room. Steve ( Southwest Sunroom Sales Manager ) was right on track; He reassured us that the Southwest Team could handle any contingency. And they did with Incredible Results ! Personable and friendly communication, and coordination, removed all the stress that comes with any challenging project - they actually made it fun. These are professional contractors and builders and a service team that deliver to Happy Customers. Some events: Pergula takedown, Deck removed, Fish pond moved and filled in, Electrical power updated to code, and power lead moved to other side of home... Then the really impressive Construction started on our 14x18-foot new "LIVING ROOM" There were No Inspection Issues, WOW. And believe me, the inspectors were here during All stages of the project (s), You get your money's worth plus = Southwest always builds safe, above, and beyond the code. i.e. you can literally drive a tank up on the subfloor and foundation. It Is BUILT ! I retired from the U.S Marines and have spent the last 26 years in Service and Installation work locally, and have been to "some" job sites and teamed up with lots of service people. What has impressed me most about the Southwest folks was how motivated and skilled the two guys that did most of the construction were... Troy and Key really excel in my book, and they obviously love the kind of challenging work they do. Come sun or rain , they were here early and motivated and ready with a plan to get 'er done. Communication and Status updates are very good top-down = Service Manager and VP (Kevin) Kept all of us in the loop informed... Even after the initial startup and walk around... to make sure each Builder, Contractor, and Customer is Happy and on the same sheet of music. Noteworthy: When the guys who are actually building your sunroom care enough to call and remind you "that if anything should go wrong this weekend [ because of an approaching tropical storm ] please just call us, we will be home all weekend." That is when you know Southwest has attracted some really Great Employees ! By the way, the new roof and guttering held back and dispersed an incredible amount of rain. The cleanup was always immaculate every day and at Completion = You almost can't tell they were even here and the Mud had been very high... Well, I lied just a little; There is this incredibly fine building attached to our little home. It is really more of a cathedral than a Sunroom ! This experience, and this addition, has been BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST THINGS WE HAVE EVER DONE. Pat and Theresa L 2018 Salem Virginia [ smile ]"

"I am very impressed with the professionalism and workmanship of Mike and his crew (James & Lonnie)?.  Despite the terrible weather, they were always punctual and hard-working during all times on site ?. I was somewhat impressed with how the team worked together,,,,, all had a piece of the puzzle and they seemed to support each other with little needed communication,,, things always seeming to be handed off as needed ?. to me, a sure sign of experience and competency ?? <br /> Beyond being a pleasant group of guys, everyone was patient and willing (an capable) to answer all questions about how, why, when, etc of the work they were doing ?.  <br /> Their attention to details was another item that impressed me ?. I know little about roofing and they could have easily had skipped tons of stuff, but they took no shortcuts and instead pointed out to me a few extra features of their craft which they included that gave me a warm fuzzy, and even made me wonder if they had done the original roof, would we have had the leaks that we did ?.. <br /> Overall, I would definitely recommend "Robertson Roofing, Inc" ?? While they might not be the cheapest alternative, if you believe in the old adage, "you get what you pay for" ? then I truly believe that you will be dollars ahead in the future with these guys ?... <br /> <br />"

"The start was delayed - had problems getting the building permit from the county as the company (J&B Home Improvement) was new and apparently hadn't filed the proper paperwork with the county.  So for several days the contractor (Dennis) and his helper would on come over and work for 2-3 hours waiting for the county inspector to  approve the work; but this couldn't be done because the company owner had not filed proper forms.    Even after permit was approved they only worked for half a day.      During the interview and job estimate process, Dennis said how he wanted to make this a show piece and voluntarily offered to do many little extra things (at no additional cost) to make sure that the job looked very good and that we would be happy as he was trying to get his new home improvement business (within the company of J&B Roofing) off the ground.          The work was generally very good and he did do <strong><em>some</em></strong> of the extra things he said he would, but not all of them and when a project that he did on our back deck, which we paid him additional money for, was not finished when the front porch was finished he got visibly upset and loud when we told him we were going to hold back a portion of the final payment until it was done.     Along with the front deck our walkway was going to have to be redone and Dennis promised that while he wouldn't be doing the cement work himself (he introduced me to a man to do it) he absolutely promised that he would lay down the framing for the cement so that it could be poured.  He said after the final payment was made that he was going to take the next weekend off but would get back to us in the next day or two.  THE ENTIRE WEEK WENT BY WITH NO VISIT, NO PHONE CALL, NO CONTACT from him at all.  We had also set up with his helper (an electrician) to install an outside plug on the porch.  He was going to come by the day after the final inspection and do that.  He never showed up and never contacted us, either. <br />      Dennis came off at first as a really nice smiling, friendly guy; but in the end he was not a man of his word and got loud and angry when he was going to have some money held back until he had finished his work. <br />      I had planned to use him for lots of home projects around the house in the future, but will definately NOT be do that as it turns out. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Lexington, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
