Our backyard was useless with standing water and a mud pit under our deck, but Troy installed a french drain system and buried several downspouts to divert the water away from the middle of the yard and installed some river rock with a border under the deck to make it an attractive area versus an eye sore. "Kurt (Distinct Landscapes) performed an exception makeover to our property. We have owned our home for 20 years, with an eye on a landscape design to the house front - that pops. What we inherited were azaleas and christmas trees that continued to grow more expansive over the years. I provided Kurt with my budget and blessing to take the necessary design/purchase/installation steps necessary to dazzle. He did not disappoint! Kurt was a joy to work with, paying several visits to our property to discuss proposed layout and educate newcomers concerning the finer points of horticulture - in laymen's terms. "We contacted Northern Virginia Landscaping shortly after my family moved into our new home in Alexandria. We wanted to be able to use the outdoor space for our kids to run around, but there was a big problem, there was eroding retaining walls, re-bar sticking up from cinder blocks, old bricks, and the land sloped a significant amount to limit functionality of a play area. We did not know much about retaining walls or how we could possible build the space for what we would like to do, with also keeping in mind some possibilities for expansion in the future. After the initial estimate we were able to finally see how the project could be accomplished, what type of drainage the walls needed to have, how high the walls should be and how we could transform this treacherous landscape into an area where are family can play for the future. We were very satisfied at the end of the project to have a more level area to use, that is safe, and has given us opportunities to expand upon for the future for our family."
