"Been a DIY lawn care person my entire life, but decided my time was best spent on other activities. What I like about these guys is that they took their time to diagnose a few issues I was having and worked with me on how to resolve it. Have not gone a whole season with them yet, but I am already loving the expertise, time and care they are putting into my lawn. Definitely recommend."

"After 50 yrs. of my husband mowing the yard by hand, catching the grass; bagging it then hauling it out for garbage day, he didn't want a lawn service.  He has health issues & I begged him for the last few years to try one.  Made a deal if he didn't like it, I would cancel.  (My daughter took over the last few years, but she also has health issues now.)   He said we couldn't afford it, but we had just spent over $200 at the doctor's office because of his COPD & we both came down so sick from the last mowing. No brainer for me, pay the doctor or get a lawn service?  He said okay, but they had to bag it!  These poor guys almost keeled over (?) using their hand mowers instead of their riders to pacify him.  They did such a great job & he felt so bad for them, he now says they don't have to hand mow & catch the grass!  YEA!  They can use their RIDERS!
Paul & Eric are the greatest!  We have a lot of lawn service companies in my neighborhood, but because of them, R & M are our choice, the best! Such perfectionist's; so professional; & gone in no time!  It always took my husband & daughter 2 hours to do our front & back lawn;  Paul & Eric did it in half the time & it looked great!  Not only that, Paul was even smiling afterwards after walking the hills of our bumpy yard, assuring us he was okay & it would even look better next time.   I don't think poor Eric was expecting to hand mow?  He did our front yard better than we ever did!  Not so much smiling, but betcha he will smile next time using the rider?
I found out the other lawn services would have "never"  tackled our yard with hand mowers! They would have left as soon as they found out.  I think my husband felt really bad about being picky & thought the new (?) high tech equipment wouldn't do a good job. He watched many of our older neighbor's tear up their grass & get hurt on their's.  But, that was because they, like him, just wouldn't give it up??)   They all have services now.  Too funny!
Thank you Paul & Eric for your time & patience with an old fuddy duddy who always helped mow the older neighbor's yards for years and just wouldn't relinquish the fact he couldn't even do his own anymore.  (Darn it!  I just found a list of his for fertilizer! Have to work on that next?
Thank you Rochelle for taking us on as customer's & Pam for great follow up

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Southgate, MI

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
