Small jobs welcome

I’m 36 year old, have been doing mainly industrial maintenance the past 6 years or so. Love fixing and putting together all kinds of different things. Not as experienced with home improvements but I have done my fair share, and am never afraid to take on a challenge. I can say that no matter what you throw at me, I will find a way to complete the job and make sure the customer is satisfied.

"I REALLY liked the salesperson that we bought it from. HE was excellent. When there was a glitch with our siding order, he came back out to check things out. HOWEVER, the guy who put up our siding was not real particular. He cut off our gutters when they were to be removed and re-hung. I AM pleased that the company replaced them without any hassle. The siding was over hanging the gables. It wasn't until we said something that he fixed it. That was the overall problem. Unless we caught a problem, it would have remained. While it might be our house itself, the siding installment is not what I'd consider "A". I don't think that I should be the one pointing out mistakes and getting them fixed. I think that they should have just been fixed. I'm glad that the guy was nice. But the end result was not installed like we had pictured."

"The good and the bad. Small jobs may be ok but a large job seems to be to much to handle. For the good They showed up on time The price was good They were polite Now for the bad The gentleman does not speak good English so communicating is difficult. They didn’t put any floor protection down i.e. paper so the floor was a complete mess. Drywall mud all over and also spray paint on tile. When installing the drywall there were a bunch of huge gaps, which exceeded a half inch. Drywall gaps should not exceed more than a quarter inch. When hired I told them, I wanted the drywall to be as smooth as my other walls however, there were a bunch of imperfections. When I seen, they started painting with a $50 per gallon paint that I purchased that was a paint and primer in one , I immediately stopped them because you could see the imperfections so I said you have to do the primer first. As with any Drywall job if they are not 100% percent perfect they need to place primer to see all the imperfections and make the repairs otherwise when you put a semi gloss paint on all the imperfections will pop out. After speaking with the wife, I was told to Mark any spots that needed fixing which I did before they came out another day. When he shown up, he appeared to be irritated. He said he is done and doesn’t want additional payment. I paid them 2000 versus the 3000 however, the following was not completed. Painting on the new Drywall Touching up the flaws on the Drywall Doing the tile work on the fireplace Painting the stairwell I would not recommend them for a large Drywall job unless you are looking to have only drywall hung without having the finishing / mudding performed."

"I had some water damage showing inside above my fireplace.  I found Empire on Angie's List and called Dan.  Dan came out and quoted me a price.  They "fixed" my chimney and "re-shingled" a patch of my roof and the saddle near the chimney.

This spring, I noticed that there was new water damage to my vaulted ceiling.  After two telephone calls to Dan, he finally came out and agreed that the work that they had done in the fall had not held up.  He put two shingles that had come off back on the roof.  He said that he would get a crew to come out immediately to repair the shingles and he would also speak to the owner about the additional interior damages to my ceiling.  He never called back.  I called him back several times on his cell phone and received no response.  I called the main telephone number at Empire to speak with the owner and instead, spoke to the receptionist.  She would not connect me with the owner.  She knew of my issue and told me that someone would get back with me regarding the problem.  That was about two weeks ago.

I called again and John answered the phone.  He said he was "filling in" for the person who usually answers the phone and I would have to call back later.  He said he could take my name and number, but it wouldn't do me any good and he wouldn't be able to get me any further than I am now.  I tried to call a different location, but all the telephone numbers are answered at the same location.

I called again the next day and finally spoke to the receptionist, again.  She apologized that someone had not returned my phone calls in a week and a half.  She said that Barry would contact me.  Barry called, came out and looked at the interior damage.  We discussed the problem.  He said he didn't think that the new water damage was caused by faulty repair.  He said he would come out next week.  He finally came out with a crew a week later and went on the roof.  They removed two additional shingles and replaced them with new shingles.  Barry said that he thought the old shingles were weather damaged, which is why they came off and leaked.  He would not compensate me for any interior repair because he claimed that the damage was not from his company's repair.  He said it was just a coincidence that the new water damage was near the old damaged area.

Barry seems like a nice guy and I picked Empire because of their high reviews on Angie's List.  If you use them, I would definitely take his advice and only contact them and go through the company telephone number and not their cell numbers.

"Kyle Adkins, the owner, did the first part of the work. He moved the heat run in the kitchen floor one joist over so it would be centered in front of the new sliding door to be installed at a later date. Kyle also began the first part of construction to modify the existing window area in preparation for a larger 6 foot wide sliding door. He did an excellent job in a professional manner. Originally, all the work for the heat run and sliding door installation was to be done in one day however we needed the work to be split so the new floor could be installed prior to the sliding door. Kyle agreed to split the job for us. The two men who installed the sliding door on September 18, 2013 were very polite and and answered all of my questions along the way. It was a big job because the window opening had to be enlarged and framed in to accommodate the sliding door, along with moving an electrical plug and install an outdoor light and switch. They did an excellent job with the construction, installing the new sliding door, all the trim work and the finish for the exterior vinyl siding and trim. Also did a great job with the final clean up. They seemed to enjoy their job and were still very upbeat when they left. I would highly recommend Kyle and his team that installed the sliding door.

FAQs for metal awning or patio cover installation and replacement projects in Lincoln Park, MI

Yes, you can paint your metal awning using oil-based paints to give it a fresh new look and protect it from corrosion. Oil-based paints are durable and help preserve the awning's structural integrity. Keep in mind that painting an aluminum awning costs $2.50 to $3.50 per square foot. Be sure to hire a painter who specializes in awning painting to get the best results.

Metal awnings are incredibly durable and offer excellent protection against the elements for your home. They resist sun, rain, and snow, keeping your space safe and comfortable. Stainless steel and copper awnings provide outstanding longevity and structural integrity, while aluminum awnings are more affordable without sacrificing performance. Plus, their sturdy construction can improve energy efficiency and boost your home's curb appeal.

While metal awnings are durable, they can be more expensive than other types, so they might not be ideal if you're on a tight budget. They also offer fewer customization options compared to fabric awnings, so you might have limited choices in style or color. Additionally, metal awnings are fixed in place and harder to adjust, so you won't be able to raise or lower them easily based on the weather.

Yes, metal awnings can increase your home's value by enhancing its curb appeal and providing more usable outdoor space. Their sturdy design not only improves the look of your home but can also contribute to energy savings. If you opt for motorized awnings, they add a touch of sophistication that can be especially appealing to potential buyers when you're ready to sell.

Metal awnings can last 20 to 30 years with proper maintenance. To keep them in good shape, regularly clean them with a vinegar and water solution a few times each season to prevent buildup and corrosion. If your awning has electronic components, be sure to service them routinely. Taking care of any damage promptly will help your awning perform its best and extend its lifespan.
