Customers say: Quick response

"The wood spindles on our stairs had not been installed correctly and had disengaged from the rail. Carlos (CA Custom Curved Handrails) assessed the problem and gave us two options, repair the problem or replace the spindles with rod iron spindles. Carlos was prompt and explained both types of repair and or replacement. We chose to move forward with the replacement. The project was very reasonably priced, and completed in a timely manner. Carlos and his son were very efficient and the replacement was completed. We were absolutely happy with the end result. The replacement enhanced the appearance of the interior of our home. Carlos son was very professional and considerate. I would without hesitation recommend CA Custom Curved Handrails. Beautiful job, thank you."

"Dylan is an exceptional craftsman. I have used him for countless jobs while restoring my 1913 duplex. He was able to manipulate a variety of salvaged materials that I requested to create the perfect complements to the original beautiful wood. Dylan was prompt, fair, and detail-oriented. I would recommend Dylan to anyone looking for exceptional work."

"We had a 35 year old solarium in great need of repair. The project was complex and difficult, but Wayne had the skills and expertise to replace six large windows and rebuild the solarium. It was a challenging project, and Wayne did an exceptional job. Our "new" solarium adds greatly to the value of our house. Wayne knows windows and doors and he gets five stars from us! Mary Ross"

"The prompt response and communication were excellent! The repairman might benefit from a little less chit chat - people are working from home and don't have so much time to converse and keep him company while he works. Otherwise, great job!"

"There was a small mix up and I didn't get a call back like I was told that I would, but once I called back, they were responsive and scheduled right away. Discussion about oil vs water based polyurethane did not happen initially so I ended up paying more than was quoted for water based finish. Overall, they guys were great, and they did a great job. Floors look awesome."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Littleton, CO

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
