Staged payment: Paying the first half after initial inspection, tear-off and delivery of materials and the second half after final inspection was a very fair way of doing things. We needed to replace some of the plyboard under the shingles and instead of charging by the hour for each of the crew (which all other contractors had quoted) he charged us by the sq. foot.
