"<p>I was very pleased with the work done by Tom Smith Plumbing. I noticed that there was a leaking pipe in my basement bathroom just after a large snow storm. The weather was terrible and way below freezing. Pretty much every plumbing service was booked solid. I had called 4 different plumbers. The person that I spoke with on the phone was polite and helpful as well as straight forward which I appreciate. Tom Smith was the one service that told me they might be able to make it the same day. Just as I had finished calling the last plumber, I received a call from Tom Smith stating that they were on there way. I was super surprised as it had only been about an hour since I had called them. They had said it would be the afternoon before I heard from them when really it wasn't even noon yet. So already I was really happy. Then Joel came in and took a look at every sink and toilet before just assuming it was the pipe I was concerned about and not a greater problem. After assessing the situation, Joel explained he would have to cut a hole in my ceiling to get to the leak. He had the pipe fixed in about 30 minutes. He cleaned up as best as he could given that I didn't have a garbage can in the area. Aside from the work that he was there to do, Joel was very personable and kind to both my 3 year old and my dog. I was impressed with the promptness, professionalism, thoroughness and kindness of Joel and Tom Smith Plumbing. </p> <p>On a side note, I was equally impressed when I had called a smaller plumbing group and when they were too busy to accommodate I was referred to Tom Smith. To me that speaks volumes when another professional in the same field recommends another. </p> <br />"

"I messaged Ogborn plumbing through Angieslist and they responded within 2 days. We had the work done on two separate occasions. This family company is great to deal with. They provide information to prevent problems and how to fix things yourself to save you money in the end. The work they have done for us has been done very professionally and I would recommend them to anyone."

"Showed up on time, did good work, billed what we agreed to, responsive to follow up questions. Much better experience than my previous replacement from a large chain store. I priced a couple of the chain stores and their install was more expensive as well. I would definitely use Salzer Plumbing again."

"Great! Jim was organized. Had a helper when needed. Arrived early. Worked hard all day. Never left a mess. Planned his work efficiently. Gave me a price up front and never added to it. In addition to removing old carpet, pad, and underlayment ,and the laying of our new Mirage 3/4" hardwood, he moved some big furniture and relocated heat ducts to accommodate new registers. He disposed of all trash. About 260 square feet. Simple rectangular shape with fireplace hearth cutout. Jim made beautiful transitions on both ends of the room where the room meets a hall and the family room."

"It went very well. After a bit of a wait, I received a very comprehensive report of 88 specific items as well as bacteria, fungi and particles. Each Item detected over the EPA drinking water limits had an explanation sheet. Also provided was a contact person at the company to address any questions you had about the report findings. I thought the service was well worth the $300 just for the peace of mind. I intend to use the company on an annual basis going forward."

"I was frustrated that they didn't cover our garbage disposal and they didn't cover the thermostat, otherwise everything we did there was great. I didn't have any problems. It's $50 a month, and then everything is covered. You don't have to pay for people to come out. When our hot water heater broke, we had to pay for the new water heater, but that just for the actual thing, not anything else like the service or installation."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Lowpoint, IL

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
