"Everything with american standard roofing went great. Their pricing was right in line (or less) than the other 3 quotes I received. The guy giving the estimate did not have a hard sales pitch or some stupid slide show on a tablet. They simply quoted the job and let me make a decision with out any pressure. When it came to install day they came with a massive crew and had all of the work completed within the same day. I had a lot of decking boards that were rotted and needed to be replaced as well. The new roof looks great and it does not leak."

"Initially, there were a few issues due to technical difficulties and complexity of the roof job.  After some discussions with GLR team, they came out several times to consult on the technical issues and ultimately resolved every single detail without charging us a ton of extra costs.  After all is said and done, James Weiss is not only a fair and honest..... He's helpful and pretty good guy. <br />"

"Received a quote from Chuck last September & when I called in March, they said they’d be out to do the porch repair for the same price, as soon as it was warm enough. A couple weeks later, I received a call on a Friday from Chad saying he’d be able to start work that Monday. He and another guy removed and replaced the large, busted steps without damaging my existing wooden railing, patched and replaced pieces of the cement cap, adding a clean, fresh layer of cement on top, filling a bunch of cracks between bricks that had settled, and reattaching my downspout. These guys went above and beyond and had most of it done in one day. An added bonus - I worked from home that day, and I barely heard a peep. Very respectful, mindful of my property and neighbors. Good-looking, fast work for a reasonable price."

"Most recently I had the roof completely redone. Just as they had performed a few years earlier, the roofing job overall was completed to satisfaction. Every job has its hick-ups and there has to be collaboration to over come situations and keep the project going. McCarter construction works with you on 100% Transparency Policy, commits to the upmost professional service, listens carefully to customer feedback, provides common sense feedback, material for home owners to do additional research and does not pressure into decision making for a fast $BUCK$! Executes knowledgeable skill sets to get the job completed to manufactures requirements for product install and most importantly quality craftsmanship, quality customer service. Even though they may seem a little more expensive at first which company is not (?) than other construction companies / quotes provided, they will negotiate, but you have to remember if it is good customer service, quality craftsmanship, collaboration and full transparency for job being quoted I recommend John McCarter."

"Mark is a class act. He makes sure you are comfortable every step of the way. His price is very fair and he will be honest about everything at every step. He makes sure you are satisfied with the job and goes above and beyond to make sure that that happens. He sells a quality product (block and tackle balance system, excellent hardware, warm edge spacer, virgin vinyl fusion welded foam filled frame, great air infiltration, u factor, and shgc ratings, etc) at a great price with great installation and service to go along. As you can see by his positive reviews, many have shared a similar experience and that is why I went with him and his reputation held true. He isn't just a window installer but a person that will make a human connection with you. It was great to have him in my home. I look forward to using him again on any future work that comes up. A big thanks to Mark and Sunrise windows! The home looks like a million bucks and is warmer because of yall. p.s.I did a deep dive on his negative reviews even though the overwhelming majority were positive to see what the negatives were about. On first glace, seeing D's was startling. However, as you can see for yourself, as I looked further they are all basically from people who didn't get any work done and had problems with getting quotes or follow ups in time. I definitely can understand it's hard to get back with everyone but I felt more assured that for those that he DOES work for, rarely have anything bad to say. I just wanted to add that because the negative reviews in this respect are misleading in a way. Best of luck"

"With the huge rain storm over the weekend we noticed that we had a bad leak. I reached out to a few companies late on Friday night. Jim Belcher called me right away on Saturday morning to help. He came to the rescue quickly the same day and gave a full review of what was needed. We just bought our home 5ish years ago and was told the roof was “new”. Jim explained to me in details why that was incorrect. Jim kept in touch with me over the weekend to make sure it did not rain anymore because he was going to run out to cover the damage to keep my family safe. With a newborn (2 weeks) and a 3 ye old, it was highly appreciated that he wanted to make sure everyone was safe. The crew showed up within the week at 8am and was very kind. They made sure everything was protected and out of the way. They worked quickly and got done by 2pm. They did not stop until the job was done! They cleaned up everything and made sure there was not one nail left behind. Very professional group of guys. I was very worried about water damage, Alex made sure to look very closely under and around the installation to make sure nothing was there. He took photos of everything to give me a peice if mind. When Jim says he will take care if you... he means it! He treats you like a family member! I highly recommend Jim and Alex for any roofing project!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Clinton Township, MI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
