"We are about 85% through the project and all of the work Bruce has done is top notch. He is very knowledgeable and talented.Even though the kitchen is not done, we have received many compliments about the design and cabinets. Our project is moving slowly due to weather and other circumstances. We are able to use all appliances and sink in the kitchen while we are on hold."

"The latch on my front load washer failed and flooded the laundry room.   After the initial clean up by an insurance restoration company, I was told to find another contractor as they were not interested in completing the repairs. <br /> I called Gary, from GC Contracting after reading the reviews and cannot tell you how pleased I am with his workmanship.  Gary and Dan made recommendations on laying out the laundry room and were amenable to any modifications and able to make those changes without any issues.  The laundry room is very small - 6' x 7' that previously had a stack washer/dryer unit.  I wanted to convert to side by side top load washer, which required a lot of measuring to ensure a laundry sink and washer/dryer would fit.     <br /> Gary and Dan gutted the laundry room - removed flooring, existing cabinetry, base molding and shelving units.   <br /> Laid new tile floor, patched and painted walls, replaced base molding and painted, built a custom cabinet for new laundry tub out of solid oak, attached the counter top and installed wall shelves.  In addition, Gary replaced trim in the kitchen that was removed and damaged during the flood.  <br /> Gary and Dan were done in three days.  They are professional, honest and hard working.  Their quality and attention to detail is a refreshing change.  I wish I could give them at A+++   Gary's prices are fair and reasonable.  The cost of the job included some materials plus labor.  I provided the majority of the materials - flooring, paint, primer, bar sink,  but Gary 's price included the oak wood for the cabinet, stain, hardware, base molding and additional shelving and brackets for the wall.   <br /> I have additional work I will need done early 2016 and will be calling them.  I highly recommend you give Gary and Dan from GC a call for any of your needs. <br />"

"On the first day they arrived early to assess the job, and to discuss my needs and expectations. <br /> Then they promptly got to work, taping baseboards and laying drop cloths where needed. <br /> They always asked before making any decisions to be sure I understood what they were going to do, and always expressed their desire for me to be happy with what they were doing.   <br /> They finished earlier than expected, so on the second day we were able to add some additional painting of my bathroom cabinets - I had thought that I was going to be the one painting those (and was not looking forward to that job), but I was thrilled that they were able to help me out by tackling the bathroom cabinets. <br /> The first day, before leaving, they cleaned up their equipment and set it aside for the next day.  They were extremely respectful of my space and also of my dog, who tried to kiss them whenever they were doing the baseboards! <br /> I am extremely happy with the way the painting looks.  They did an excellent job, and I definitely would call them again and will recommend them to my friends with a high score. <br /> <br /> <br />"

My business is pretty simple. Currently I am a one man business. Beautifying your home is my main objective. Depending on job size I do have one other professional that I may utilize. I have had the best of customers and seemingly enough, my customers become my friends as many have over the years. In most occasions, I ask for a "starter check". This usually covers what materials I need and a 25% down payment of the labor cost. I will gladly accept a check but I also take cash as a payment.

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Mancelona, MI

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
