"We had cracks in the dyed mortar of the bricks above our garage. Grady took the time to match the color, even with the color having aged 10 years, and you would not even be able to tell that there was new mortar. If your project is anything like ours, you will not be disappointed."

"My property was listed for sale during the late fall/winter months.  Realtors needed access to the property for showings with very little notice.  Scott and his team kept the property in good condition through the winter months by plowing and sanding a steep drive and clearing snow and ice by the road, routinely checking mechanical systems in the house and performing light cleaning.  My house is sold now and I referred SFH to the new owners.  I wish Scott and SFH all the best!"

"Couldn't be happier. We talked to several contractors, and he was the most organized and had a plan right from the start. All of the work done was his idea after looking at our area for less than 30 minutes. He gave us a quote right there that day, and stuck with it. He and his crew worked during the hottest week of the summer, and did a fantastic job. They went above and beyond what others have done for us, and he made sure things were done properly. He made sure to put in new grass seed where the backhoe had torn up the grass (something others have not done). I recommend them very highly, and would hire them for another job in a second. Our only regret is that we tried to scale it back a little from his ideas, and in the end we realized we should have gone with his idea (would have saved us money in the end). <br />"

"Great workmanship in the retaining wall Mike and Steve built for me. Very professional and took extra care to not rip up the lawn nearby the work area. Also was proactive to spread the extra crushed stone material in the driveway which needed some attention. Will definitely hire again as my list of additional work for Mike and Steve is growing. Highly recommend."

FAQs for brick and stone patios, walks, and steps installation projects in Maryland, NY

When cleaning your flagstone patio, begin by gently hosing off loose dirt and debris. Use a mild solution of white vinegar and water or diluted dish soap to scrub the surface with a soft-bristled brush. Avoid using abrasive tools, such as wire brushes, as they can damage the stone’s seal and finish. This careful approach effectively removes mold and grime while preserving the natural beauty of your patio.

Flagstone naturally offers a neutral palette that includes shades of grey, black, red, yellow, brown, and tan, and its inherent color cannot be altered. Choosing varieties like bluestone provides a subtle bluish tint that complements many exterior designs. These natural hues enhance curb appeal and create a refined, timeless look in your outdoor space, ensuring a sophisticated finish with minimal upkeep.

Flagstone for a patio must have a minimum thickness of 1.5 inches to reliably support furniture and foot traffic. Using stone that is two to three inches thick is recommended to ensure lasting durability. The increased thickness prevents cracking under load and enhances long-term performance. Investing in thicker flagstone provides superior stability and resistance to weather conditions, ensuring your outdoor space remains both safe and attractive.

You can paint a flagstone patio by using a high-quality, outdoor elastomeric latex paint designed for heavy foot traffic. Painting not only refreshes the patio’s appearance but also creates a waterproof barrier that protects the stone from damage. Regular reapplication every one to two years maintains its durability and visual appeal, ensuring your patio remains both stylish and well-protected.
