"I’m very happy with the installation of my new sod! My job was scheduled to be done very shortly after my estimate and the team was punctual, professional and did high quality work. I’ve already gotten compliments on how good it looks. "

"Our yard definitely looks a lot better but we were unhappy about several things. The regrading on the north side of the house didn't fix the standing water problem. A number of areas of the new lawn died and they wouldn't replace the sod but said that the grass would regrow in the fall. It didn't do so although a small part of it did regrow. They failed to put in a sprinkler head to reach some rose bushes and said they would come back and fix it but didn't. They kept saying that it would be finished in a week or two and months later it still wasn't done. We had to keep putting off another contractor because they still weren't done."

"Our back deck was falling apart and needed to be demolished and replaced with pavers. It was going to be a fairly big job, so we did our due diligence and sought out quotes from several places. The quote from Artistic Landscapes was similar in price to the others, but Robert was much more detailed and thorough with the information he provided in his quote. We ended up signing with Robert, and in the course of the work we found lots of additional things to get done as well. In the end their team also completed the following: New automatic sprinkler system for the front yard, removal/replacement of old plants in the front yard, installation of a water feature, construction of a pergola, and more. It was a big upgrade! We love how both the front and back yard turned out. We're very happy with the results and with the experience with Artistic Landscapes. We will definitely work with them again when we need more work done"

"We hired Dave and his team to install a full landscape design we'd commissioned. After interviewing several firms, it was clear Terra-Sol would do a great job at a fair price. We were impressed by Dave's professionalism and attention to detail as he made several site visits in the bidding stage. Dave discussed the layout details with me and came up with several areas where we could lower some costs, as well as adding input to the design that worked very well. Busy as his team is. It was a few months before we were able to fit into the schedule. Dave's crew worked efficiently and professionally and within 2 or 3 days, we had a new landscape. After the job, Dave and Rea always responded to calls, took care of any plant warranty issues promptly. Impressively, the following year Dave made some hardscaping shifts for us to be sure our property looked as good he wanted it to look. I'm pleased to recommend Terra-Sol!"

"Job took two weeks end to end. The job was complex and involved tree removal, demolition, and then construction. Alex let us know what to expect and raised issues and decisions in an efficient manner. Noe and Gildardo were punctual, hard working, and took great pride in their work They worked through some wet and nasty weather and it didnt slow them down. The precision stone cutting they performed to build the wall properly really made a difference. The end result is amazing and we are very happy with the result."

"Wasn't a sod install, I went for hard scape (pavers). Beautiful job. Communication with the installer was a small issue. I can definitely recommend Dream Landscape."

"I had a VERY complicated weed removal (like, I swear to god, you have literally never seen something as overgrown as this) and both Amados were great. They removed 400 square feet of impenetrable hedge, and were very flexible, added on some extra work, and took care of courtesies that I hadnâ t asked for - like mowing the lawn. And despite the fact that this hedge was the worst ever, Iâ m talking 40-year-old-blackberry-bar â they somehow removed it without hurting nearby stonework. Just good people all around. And the job was finished in half the time expected. If you forced me to criticize this business, I would say that they mayyyve werenâ t the best at communication? I didnâ t get a confirmation call until the day before â which I thought was pretty standard, but based on reviews, some folks have problems with that. I think those folks are probably jerks. Honestlyâ ¦ this is so clearly a family business â there arenâ t secretaries and schedulers and receptionists. People get busy, and details gets lost in the process. I found Amado Jr & Sr& and their crew to be great people to work with. Amado Jr explained s his reasons for the price every step of the process, and his estimates were the most reasonable ones I heard. Even if his estimates were higher than other peoples (they werenâ t) I still would have chosen this business, Amadoâ s honesty about the difficulties of the job I needed done and his up-front communications about the reasons for the cost were very reassuring & trustworthy â - and that matters more than any estimate you can gets.."

FAQs for sod installation projects in Tigard, OR

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
