"They gave me the information on their process, along with a quote if mold was present. They suggested first step was to remove everything from attic to check for leak and/or mold. Fortunately the problem was solved by removing items from attic which allowed an improved air flow. Very helpful over the phone. Thank you."

"Mark came out to look at the area in question. He made some recommendations for size and design to match the style and look of the house. He sketched out the patio dimensions and provided a price. I hired them and they came to perform the work as scheduled."

"We were extremely pleased with them.  The estimate was very upfront - John quoted the price for the chimney replacement and additional costs we might incur depending on what they found inside.  All very reasonable.  When we got the estimate they said they would be out within two weeks, but it might be sooner if they had time at the end of another job (since ours would be a quick job).  We indicated that would be fine.  A few days later John called in the afternoon and asked if it would be okay to come out that day, and they arrived about an hour later.  We selected the brick right then and were very pleased with the selection.  They found the best access point to the roof that woudn't damage our flower gardens, and put carpetting on the roof to protect the shingles.  They had the old one torn down and the new one up very quickly.  They also checked the chimney for condensation (found none) and checked the chimney in the basement for other evidence of leakage or condensation (found none).   We were very pleased to see them use the extra mortar left over from the chimney to patch cracks between the foundation blocks of our front porch (they did this on their own, we didn't have to ask them to do it).  Their workers were polite and professional, and they tore down and put up the new chimney in less than 2 hours.  I paid them the same day (the price was exactly as quoted), even though they told me they needed to let the mortar set up until the next day before they could attach the flashing around the chimney.  They returned the next day at 9 AM and finished the job.  We were very impressed.  We found them on Angie's List and called them based on their other good recommendations."

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"It went very well.  Cornerstone actually came in with the highest bid among three contractors, but I was impressed with the detail of their bid and the wire mesh reinforcement that was to be installed prior to pouring the concrete.  They showed up when promised and completed the work as bid in a timely fashion.  When I called to report that they had not yet filled in the sides of the new driveway with topsoil as promised in the contract, they apologized and came out the very next morning to fill in the topsoil.  There were no surprise charges in the final bill. <br /> I waited on providing my review to give the driveway time to settle and react to normal use.  I am pleased to report that there has been no cracking or other apparent flaws in the finished work.  Nor has there been any leaking of sand from under the concrete. <br /> I gave Cornerstone a B on price, since they were the highest bid, but, considering the good results so far, they may be entitled to an A. <br />"

"All Palmer staff and subcontractors were unfailingly polite, pleasant, professional, and thorough. They cleaned up after themselves, communicated clearly with me about timeline, problems encountered, etc. They took feedback in stride and were just all around great. I highly recommend them. They'll be painting our house this summer and probably doing a patio project in 2018 for us."

"Carpentry Plus Building came to our rescue to build a deck for my mom after a disastrous experience with a different contractor that we ended up firing. They picked up where the other contractor left off (something others were not willing to do). I originally contacted them on a Friday at 4:30 pm. To my surprise, they got back with me within an hour and continued to engage for several hours after that, ultimately providing a very reasonable quote for an unusual deck installation. Every single step of the way, Brad and Lauri were professional, courteous, honest, and trustworthy. They did exactly what they said they would do and either showed up on time, or early. The entire job was completed in less than two weeks from the day I contacted them, and three weeks sooner than they estimated. The workmanship and craftsmanship was exceptional with an unparalleled attention to detail. They even cleaned my mom's windows when they were done! These are people who clearly care about the quality of their work and also know a thing or two about how to treat customers. I'd use Carpentry Plus again in a heartbeat and I recommend them with the highest of praise."

"I had called another mud jacking company and they came out to look at my situation. They said that they would call in a couple of days with a quote to do the job. 2 weeks later I had to call them and they said their equipment could not handle the job. So I called CR and L co. They gave me a quote right over the phone. All that they needed was the measurements of the two slabs. They showed up when they said they would and did an excellant job. I was at work at the time and they were very polite and respectful to my wife. They took before and after pictures with the permission of my wife. I could not be more pleased with their work."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Mason, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
