"Great experience with a very professional crew. The work of fixing my front sidewalk and driveway was completed quickly, on time, and looks great now! Thanks to Jackie and Ryan, who did the repair work. They were friendly, efficient, and quickly completed all the work needing to be done. They answered all my questions. I would go to Baird Foundation Repair without hesitation for any future foundation or concrete work, if the need develops. I'll be recommending Baird to all of my neighbors and friends. Oh, and the cost of the work being done actually came in a little under what I was expecting, which was a very nice surprise!"

"It was a small part of a much larger landscaping project I had been working on. I need concrete bricks cut in half to complete a retaining wall for my cactus garden. I had attempted to doing the cutting myself but lacked the necessary equipment. I contacted several businesses in the area but none of them had the proper equipment to cut the 8 inch thick concrete bricks that I had. Ricardo came to my house and was able to finish the project in about one hour. I now have a new retaining wall in place for my new cactus garden."

"This was a great experience with this contractor.  As soon as I contacted them, Rafael came the next day, explained the process and began the work in just a few days.  Rafael was present on the job supervising every thing that was done.  He gave me several options as to color and the type of stamps.  He calmed my fears of putting an overlay on an existing driveway by adding fiber to the concrete and putting down reinforcment wires. His crew had to first remove the existing broken and cracked tile on the driveway and each day they cleaned up the area.  His workers arrived clean and were polite and were diligent in focusing on the job.  Rafael uses his own employees and they are well skilled at their jobs.  This experience met more than my expectations and I would recommend this contractor to everyone."

"We needed to change from bathtub to a walk-in shower in my elderly mother's house.  The owner worked with us from the very beginning, providing valuable advice and even recommending an option that would provide him with less profit.  The shower was professionally redone with beautiful wall tile and non-slip floor tile.  I was very impressed at how the foreman, Jesse, and the whole crew worked at making sure that every detail was done to ensure the safety of my mom.  Caution was taken to minimize dust and to finish as quickly as possible in order to reduce the disruption of my mom's daily routine. The shower is now a beautiful work of art.  Everyone who has come by to see it has  made them same comment, "I want the same for my house.""

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Mcallen, TX

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
