"All work was performed in a professional manor. The old concrete sidewalk and patio were removed and replaced in three days. The final product looks great and drains well."

Small jobs welcome

"Was hired to dig up and replace concrete patio...was told there would be no 'bird baths' puddles...needless to say the slab right outside the door will be an ice rink come winter...water does not drain away from the house...this he was told about...never come back to seal and patio had 'boogers' as he called it in the water drainage joints....was called multiple times and never come to fix...made quite a mess at our window well...we built a cover with screen to hide...we were at the point of seeing no integrity and taking the loss and move on...THEN...discovered a hole ...yes a hole.... again he was called said he would come and yet once again ...no call no show....should have went with the first red flag...his FIRST cancellation call to come and look at the job....actually said he wanted to go swimming...too bad...we kept giving him chance after chance to make things right"

"I wanted to upgrade some concrete around my house, I needed a new driveway, a wall and walkway. I was walking in my neighborhood one early Fall day, and I observed a crew of men doing concrete work. They had done two different jobs over a two-week period. I observed their work and it was striking. I asked the gentleman for a card and asked him to come look at my project. That crew was the Christopher Brother’s Concrete Co. The gentleman was Ed Bregman , the owner. He came promptly, and I described to him what I wanted him to do. He began to take measurements and make calculations. Once he finished, he came to the door asked us to come out and explained what he saw and what was the best approach to take preliminarily, but that he would go and take more calculations and put together a proposal. Mr. Bregman came the next day and explained in detail what needed to be done. We accepted. When they began the work I was impressed that Mr. Bregman was the first person there. That was every day throughout the completion of the project. He oversaw every aspect of the entire project. They worked every day until the project was completed. I could not have been more pleased and felt that they had done a fantastic job. We were impressed to such a degree that I asked him about the back of the house and what he thought it would take. I told him to keep us in mind for the following Spring. He put together another proposal which we accepted, we put in a new barbeque area, an extended concrete patio running the length of the back of our house as well as concrete steps going up to a terrace in the back yard. Once again, we were so pleased at the quality and detail of the work. Mr. Bregman was hands-on, (consistently the hardest working person on his crew) prompt, onsite early, working, demonstrating a complete understanding of each aspect of the task. His team worked every day until each job was completed. He was committed to the highest quality throughout and demonstrated it throughout both projects. For example, his team was constructing the base of the versa-lock wall that would serve as the foundation of the barbeque area. He was working on another portion of the project on the other side of the back of the house. They were well-along and he came and inspected their work. It looked fine to me but he was not pleased and had them start again. He wanted it to be right. I have had neighbors come and admire the work done on the front and back of my house. I had two friends that both were contractors, one working in new construction and the other an electric contractor, and both asked me who did my concrete work. They were impressed with the quality and attention to detail, assessing the craftsmanship that they observed. The quality of the Christopher Brothers work has not only increased the value of our home , but also the aesthetics. I have spent the last two summers having coffee on my new patio each morning, and enjoy the patio many times throughout other portions of the day."

"<p>David Giels crew arrived as promised on time on a Saturday morning as my wife & I both work.  The crew consisted of Steve, and Ken (the older guys who have worked for Dave for some time), and Tyler, a younger guy who set up shop for the task at hand.  The crew worked like a well oiled machine.  I had to move an electrical box in the garage ceiling in one of the two garage bays that was going to be covered up by the new garage door opener. As I worked on this, the guys worked outside getting the new door sections ready while I finished my job.  Ken did the replacement of my shed garage door panels ( with Tylers' help as needed ), then joined Steve & Tyler on the House garage doors.  It was obvious to me that these guys could handle any challenges they might encounter as our house provided a few.  They removed wood that would become problematic for the new garage door trim, and chiseled out concrete that would prevent a good fit and seal for the doors.  Before loading the old doors to haul away for us, they asked us if we wanted anything from the removal. I kept 4 large eye hooks that the old safety cables attached to.  The new doors have a torsion spring that replaced the old springs requiring the safety cables.  The crew was here less than six hours and did an excellent job.   They explained the programming of the openers and operation of the doors after a thorough cleaning of the jobsite.  My wife Jeanie and I are thrilled with our new garage doors and openers !   Thanks to David Giel for his initial visit and estimate.  He listened to what we wanted and made recommendations based on his expertise in his line of work.  He didn't try to sell us any extras and was as easy to work with.  His no pressure sales approach sold us immediately and we didn't hesitate to give him the job. ( David was our only estimate ! )   The office personnel were also top notch.  I called once with a question before they were open, and got a return call as soon as they got in.  Our entire experience with David Giel Garage Doors can be summed up with 1 word.... Professional !         Lee Wilson (Allison Park, PA.)</p>"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Mckeesport, PA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
