"My neighbors daughter had backed into my brick mailbox and broke it in half. I had Chuy come out to do the repair. Chuy gave me the best price after 3 other quotes and the finish job was exceptional. My brick mailbox looked as if nothing ever happened. I was EXTREMELY satisfied with his work. If you're looking for quality, professional work from someone honest and personable, then Chuy is your guy. I HIGHLY recommend him."

"Olsen Tuckpointing Company did a brilliant job of cleaning & tuckpointing our 91-year-old brick bungalow. We are delighted with the results and highly recommend Olsen if you need any kind of brickwork done. It wasn't a huge job, but with the home being as old as it is, we were concerned about getting it done right. The brick exterior had quite a few old mortar patches and some washed-out sections, and over the years the walls had collected a wide assortment of paint stains, hardware hangers and old screw holes. The textured, tan brick also looked pretty dingy, although we weren't sure how much was the original color and how much might be accumulated dirt. The attached pictures show the after & before of dull brown bricks cleaned to a warm, clean gold. I didn't take closeups of the repairs, but I am impressed by how seamlessly the new work blends in with the older mortar. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt, and professional, and I have only good things to say about them all. The estimator was able to come out quickly after the initial contact, he did a comprehensive walk-though, and he provided a clear, reasonable, and detailed estimate in a timely fashion--along with an explanation of the whole process from start to finish, so we would know what to expect. The office staff was great about getting things scheduled and making sure we knew when the crews would be showing up, the crews introduced themselves on arrival, and they were all friendly, careful, and incredibly skilled. We are 100% pleased as can be & will certainly be calling Olsen Tuckpointing when next we need any masonry work performed."

"Brick and Stone reached out immediately upon my request for a free quote. A gentleman was here the next day. I had some loose stones above my garage that needed repair. Kris was able to come out within days to complete the work. He arrives early and completed everything as described. I am very pleased and would definitely utilize their services again. I would like to upload more photos, but the files are too large."

Customers say: Quality work

"Chimney work was outstanding. The new chimney matches the house brick in color and variations! The house is 60 years old. The mortar work replaced all of the holes and made the walls look new. I would use them for any future masonry or chimney work I need."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired CHAFFEE CONSTRUCTION, Inc. to restore the Tuck-pointing on my home that was done by previously done by Priority Roofing and Construction. Priority Roofing did a very bad job before they were asked to leave. CHAFFEE CONSTRUCTION, Inc removed bad material left behind by Priority Roofing and replaced with high grade Tuck-Pointing material and replaced Stone-Cap on the planter in front of my home. My home looks Great Now!"

"After receiving two other estimates for tuck-pointing work needed on our small (7 unit) condo building, we decided to go with North Shore. The owner of the company, Les, came out personally and provided what I felt was an honest assessment of our issues (we were experiencing increasing ceiling leaking in the top floor units). He was clear to say he would not be the least expensive nor the most expensive, and he was correct. He got us on the schedule quickly and was in constant contact on when his team would arrive as weather was an issue. His team was courteous and left the work site clean. Shortly after the work was completed we had a huge storm, and we are happy to report did not experience any leaks. We plan on working with North Shore again come spring to complete our remaining tuck-pointing projects."

"I had some major work done on my house this year and I went back to someone I trusted: Eddie, Manny and Mike from E&B Masonry. They did a porch project for me in 2018 and it was great. I used them again. They gave me a good price, but I also knew that they would get the job done right. They included me on each decision and checked with me through out the project. I had roofing repairs on my parapet wall where the previous owner had roofed over the limestone causing water building up. During this they found damaged bricks. They took pictures and video to show me what they needed to do. Then they did work on the outside wall where someone else I hired failed to do the tuckpointing. Finally, they installed all new concrete sidewalks from front to back and side to side. This included stairs going down to the basement. They had to pitch the concrete in creative ways and added a new drain to handle additional water. It looks fantastic. I am hiring them to do some additional jobs as well."

FAQs for brick or stone tuck pointing projects in Melrose Park, IL

Masons charge between $70 and $110 per hour. A mason may have a minimum service fee ranging from $80 to $300. Most bricklayers offer free estimates and charge only if you proceed with the project. This clear pricing model assures that professionals inspect your property before beginning work and charge based on your project’s actual requirements.

A professional repointing lasts 20 to 30 years without maintenance and extends up to 50 years when maintained diligently. This process protects your brickwork using high-quality materials that ensure lasting performance and durability. Consistent upkeep preserves its strength and appearance, providing enduring protection and enhancing your home’s overall structural integrity for decades.

You know your house needs repointing when you notice clear signs such as cracked, flaking, or missing mortar and visible discoloration on the brick surfaces. Additional indicators include loose bricks, water damage, and gaps between the brick joints that compromise the overall integrity of the structure. Addressing these issues promptly protects your investment and sustains the durability and curb appeal of your home.

A house needs repointing to preserve both its structural integrity and visual appeal. Mortar acts as a vital bonding agent that holds the bricks securely together. When the mortar deteriorates, it exposes the structure to water infiltration and further decay, increasing the risk of costly repairs. Repointing stops decay and reinforces the exterior, ensuring long-term protection.
