"Owner provided a quote June 2018 which we returned with the money down he requested for materials. After he received the money he ordered materials but when we called him to find out a possible build date he stated the quote was $1000 less than he should have quoted us but would do it anyway because he made the mistake. It was a week or so we got materials and they sat here for several weeks before he arrived to build. All was going good, stated the job would only take 2 days. They started putting up the frame when he got a phone call and had to leave. That evening he was in a vehicle accident, the young individuals who worked for him had no idea what they were doing. They would work whatever hours they wanted, they worked maybe 3 hours one day 4 hours the next. When putting on metal roof nothing was straight, the screws and nails missed the per lines (wood it was to draw to). gable metal to short, sway braces not nailed together, ridge cap not centered on roof, no hurricane tie downs, front truss bowed out. Then on day a friend came to pick up his trailer, we immediately put a lock on the trailer so he could not remove it because the owner needed to see the problem carport. I took pictures & I did write up all issues with the carport. The friend called the owner, owner did decide to look at the carport with one of the young builders. At that point I told him I wanted it repaired. I made him sign a paper with all concerns and I also gave him a deadline date of May 31, 2019, this would give him time to heal. Around the 1st of May 2019 we did call the owner & left several messages trying to schedule a date to repair & complete. We finally got in touch with him & he stated he would call us the week of the 14th, we did not hear back from him that week. I called him at 7:30 am on the 17th of May and I told him who I was and first thing he stated to me is if I call him again he may not show up at all. He did repair & complete on May 30th but he left a bunch of junk behind, left nails & screws on driveway & around the building, just nailed sway braces to outside of 4X4's, did not properly place them in between the 4X4's."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Menominee, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
