"Fantastic My wife and I were having a very difficult time finding a local outfit to replace our leaking roof before winter fully set in. The quotes we received for a spring job were very high. I called Tim at Black Ox thinking he would be too far away or also fully booked. I was surprised to hear back that he would be able to get it done before the winter and his quote was much more reasonable than the larger outfits. In short Tim got the job done when he said he would and at the price quoted. He saw that we would need some additional insulation and simply got that done as well. He and his crew were here and gone in a shockingly few number of days, even working in bitter cold. The roof is spectacular and the house so much warmer. It was almost as if they were never here and this perfect standing seam roof magically appeared almost over night. I assume he is able to do this because he does one type of roof only and because he spends all day at work in the field. Do not expect lengthy conversations with Tim. If he says he will get it done at a certain time at a certain price he will. Send in your deposit and be patient. Tim is a very busy man and actually up on roofs working rather than on the phone or computer chatting. It is refreshing to work with someone in such a straight forward manner, but you must trust him. In return you will have a beautiful new standing seam roof of the best materials, perfectly installed by a master of the craft, at an unbeatable price. We can recommend Black Ox without any hesitation and feel very lucky to have discovered this treasure."

"When it was time for our roof replacement we did a lot of research and got quotes from a few different contractors. The price from Arone Exteriors was the most competitive and I liked how they detailed everything in their quote such as work to be performed, materials used, etc so there would be no confusion or surprises later on. Joe was very professional and easy to work with, he answered any questions we had and offered us his opinion without making us feel like he was trying to upsell us. The crew that worked on our roof were polite and professional. We had 2 layers of shingles stripped off and the new roof was completed that same day, they cleaned up after themselves and our new roof looks great! Joe even fixed our screen door for us that kept sticking! I would not hesitate to use Arone Exteriors in the future and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have work done on their home."

"We've used PBS before for a basement remodel. On the first of the two occasions in question - 2 years ago - our rear gutters started making a buzzing sound when the wind blew from the side of the house. It was very loud and annoying - sleep-denyingly so. It was mid-summer and T-storms were coming constantly so I texted PBS owner, Pete Ceraldi, and gave him the scoop. He had a crew to our place within 2 days to put everything in order. Golden. Jump to this year (2017). 3 Feet of snow had fallen within a week and then mid-60s temps were making waste of Mother Nature's thick, white blanket. The quick melting caused snow and ice to slide swiftly off of our roof ripping our gutters down in the process. Another text to Pete - he responded same day - from New Zealand, on vacation! That was on a Sunday. By Wednesday he (still in NZ) had a contractor crew to our place to pull all the gutters down, clean them up, and re-install. Twice Golden."

"Ted was not only prompt in estimating the job but also in the completion of the job. He noticed two other minor issues with previous roofing job done by another company and repaired those as well. He answered phone calls and emails promptly and performed the work exactly when and how he said he would. I am very glad to know the quality of Ted's work and to know that I can call on him for any future roofing needs. <br />"

"Excellent service, high quality craftmanship, superlative personal interactions and the kind of integrity in business relationships that are like a breath of fresh of air. For example: the roof ridge was open for ridge cap installation, rain arrived earlier than forecasted, the crew remained on roof for over an hour in the rain to close up the ridge - attic remained dry. We wish we had more roofing work we could hire them to do."

"Jesse designed a home that was situated on a very steep slope. This upslope lot was extremely challenging. With the help of his qualified, experienced team, that continued to work during the harsh winter months, the challenges were not insurmountable. Jesse added volume and stability to the fondation by creating a walkout basement, with large windows and sliding-glass doors to admit daylight. The custom staircase added architectural appeal. Jesse designed the great room with an open floor plan facing the mountains. Additionally, the hard surface areas, such as driveways and roofs create runoff, but this was thoughtfully planned to have the runoff directed away from the foundation. Jesse spoon fed me every step of the way. He would respond immediately to any question. His dedication, artistry, professionalism, is one of a kind. The home is gorgeous! Thank you again for showcasing such beauty in a home. A plus!!!!!"

"These guys are great! They showed up when they said they would and completed the job on time. The crew is very professional, are very careful and they clean up afterwards. They did everything they were supposed to do. I had them install the zinc anti-fouling strips on the top of the roof too. They gave me a very competitive price and honored the price with no surprises. I highly recommend Clayton and Sons."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Meredith, NH

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
