"Victor (Hung) has an excellent knowledge of his business, his craft. Itâ s a family business which he took over from his father. I watched Hung and his workers do the refinishing. They make it look easy. They know what theyâ re doing. The final product was excellent. I was given a good price for the work that was done. Hung is easy to work with and reliable. I would definitely recommend him for refinishing floors."

"I contacted White Glove for a living room and hallway flooring job. We had our entire living room redone, including flooring, two years ago. That flooring installer did not prep the floor properly. As a result, the vinyl flooring cracked. I contacted Jason and he was out promptly to look at our job and listen to our concerns. Jason not only prepped the floor properly before installing the new floor, but also addressed a few other minor issues that we had to make sure that we were totally satisfied. A great experience! When we're ready to do our kitchen flooring, I know who I'm going to call!"

Small jobs welcome

"From the estimate and scheduling to the refinishing, the job was handled perfectly. We enjoyed having such a professional and polite team; the crew doing the work were very hard working; it was a pleasure. Most importantly, the final product was excellent. We are so pleased and would recommend Crown Flooring to anyone needing hard wood floor refinishing, floor installation, and carpeting."

"Elmer and his assistant did a great job on our floors. I could not see any imperfections in the floor when they were finished. In addition, the finish and wood trim look excellent. Elmer was prompt, professional and did the job on the agreed upon week and days. I’d highly recommend SCR for any flooring jobs."

"Overall happy with the result, they do good quality work and very professional. The only caveats are 1) one needs some patience to get on schedule as they are small business and get very busy sometimes. This is expected and I'd rather deal with the same person and wait rather than many middlemen in a large business. 2) custom work and color matching is complicated and I was expecting a bit more guidance and oversight when it came to color matching. Stairs wood came from different company which was supposed to custom match color to what we had installed on flat surface ( standard bruce hardwood) they did match it on small sample fairly well to test and approve but when the actual product came to be installed, there were noticeable differences in undertone: bruce hardwood had some distinct red undertone and stairs wood had none. I understand that texture and grain of wood is out of control -stairs and planks are made of different wood with different grains, but the color of the stain is totally in their control and that part did not come out great. That's where I expected professionals to help more: customers do not have experience with custom colors usually."

FAQs for wood flooring refinish projects in Merion Station, PA

The hardest wood floor finish is aluminum oxide, but it only comes on prefinished boards. If you want something durable you can add after installation, acid-cured is your best bet. The key to the longevity of any type of wood floor is a maintenance coat when a traffic pattern begins to show in high traffic areas.

Moisture-cured urethane is the most durable finish for homes with pets. However, It contains a lot of (VOCs) that can aggravate pets and people, especially at first. If you’re looking for a low-VOC alternative, water-based polyurethane is your best bet.

Bona sells several highly-rated polyurethane hardwood floor finish products, typically through small, local distributors. Brands like DuraSeal or Minwax also rank well for durability and ease of application. They are available at businesses such as Walmart and Amazon.

You have to seal unfinished hardwood floors to protect them from scratches and stains. The frequency depends on the type, but in general it’s ideal to refinish them between four and six times in their lifetime. This comes out to about every seven to 10 years.

Refinishing hardwood floors costs $1,100 to $2,400.

Wood stain adds a color to the surface. A finish adds a level of shine (e.g. matte, low-gloss, high-gloss) and seals the grain to protect against damage. Some companies, such as Minwax, offer products that do both at once.
