"They are cement contractors. The rebuilding of the chimney was good but their stuccoing capabilities were minimal. The important part of what was done was done and there are probably not a whole lot of people that can do the stucco part very well. The rebuilding of the chimney was cement block and it was good but the ability to stucco was not as good. I didn't have a complaint when they were done but years later I can see that they didn't do as good of a job as they should have. I have a porch that I have to have replaced and I will talk to them on that."

"Concrete driveway leveling and crack repair work was performed to our satisfaction, by a 2 man crew, who arrived promptly at 8 am and completed the repairs in less than 4 hours. <br /> The work was expertly done. Almost half of the driveway had settled with resultant cracks and joint movement, caused by water intrusion into the substrate below the slab.  The slab has now been raised back up to level by drilling small holes in the slab and filling below with light weight dense foam, pressure injected. Upon completion of the leveling process, all the crack joints were filled with sand cement topped off with a flowable epoxy, thus sealing the joints. <br /> Observing the work as it was done, I was impressed by the skill level shown and, especially, the judgement of how much injection can be done without causing further cracking to occur due to over filling, or uneven filling. <br /> It is important for potential customers to know that this is repair work.  The intent is to make the driveway completely functional and safe. The evidence of it being repaired will be obvious but should, when finished properly, be acceptable.  The only alternative, complete demolition, sub slab consolidation and new slab construction, would probably cost at least ten times as much and much longer to complete. <br /> The two men worked diligently, showed a high level of competence and were very courteous at all times.  We were very impressed and would, following this experience, strongly recommend Acculevel, Inc. <br /> Myles Murphy <br />"

"I had a very complicated problem with a wood burning fireplace with gas starter and previous companies said I needed to run a new gas line and needed a new liner for over $3000. The owner John of the company came out for free, located where my gas line originated with the shut off valve (that 2 other companies could not find), called an inspector and did research, and informed me my existing gas line that goes under the slab will work but we should do a pressure test. He performed this analysis for free.   I am hiring him to do a pressure test for $89 and if we go forward with converting our fireplace to gas logs, I will use this company.  John is very knowledgeable and professional. <br />"

"Jacob and Jason did an excellent job and were very professional as they dealt with some unexpected challenges discovered during the inspection. They were on time and accommodating. Jacob did an excellent job explaining the various steps and condition of the chimney. <br />"

"I was out of town when the work was done. Once I got home, it looked like only the caulking had been done because the two sections were still lower than the rest of the driveway. Eric stopped by and let me know that when they tried leveling, the adjacent concrete slab started to raise, so they had to stop. I didn't know that this was even a possibility, so I was disappointed. There were a few spots where the caulking didn't completely cover the seam. I expressed my concern and Eric came back to fix these problem areas. Eric was very patient with me as I was having health issues and was not very responsive to his voicemails. He remained pleasant and professional, which I greatly appreciated. I would hire them again if needed, and would recommend."

"I would highly recommend Mark and Ark Foundation for any kind of basement waterproofing or foundation work.  Found him with Angie's list, and consistently great reviews, now I see why.  I had several quotes from other companies for basement waterproofing, but Ark's was the best price and I liked their system a bit better than others.  They clearly have a lot of experience with these systems.  Work was done well, on schedule, and good communication during the job.  A few things I particularly appreciated were attention to detail: did a great job cleaning up, even came back a few days after the job was done to do a more complete cleanup.  Also cement patched MANY holes and cracks in the concrete block which were left behind from previous stud wall attachment, at no extra charge. <br /> The pricing and quote was straightforward.  No games, no pressure sales.  I wish all contractors worked this way.  Great small business to work with, highly recommended. <br />"

"David Nelson is a very professional fellow.  He listened to the needs that I had to cover a cracked concrete front stoop and one step with Ohio Blue flagstone to match a walkway that was recently added.  When I first contracted with him his work schedule was such that he couldn't start for about 4 weeks.  He gave me a very fair quote and a 50% payment was made.  Although David was 3-4 days late in starting, he had accessional rationale.  Once he got started, he battled a terrible scourge of mosquitos and a very rainy week to get the work done.   <br /> I was unhappy with how recessed one stone in the center of the top step was.  I mentioned it to him and he professionally corrected the stone to my satisfaction.  He is very kind, soft-spoken, professional and conscientious. <br />"

"Went great!  Everything was talked over and expectations were let known right at the beginning, which I think is a big help.  There was a lot of coordinating on this project with moving of the animals and so forth and that really made a big difference.  I would recommend these honest hard working guys to anyone.  It's hard to find good contractors and we were glad to meet up with them!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Michigan Center, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
