"Went very well. Complete in 2 full days with a 2-person crew. They paid particular attention to aesthetics afterward which I appreciated. Most positive part was, they finished the day before a torrential rain storm which washed away much of the disturbed soil (where the drainage pipe was buried) as well as mulch and some river stones. I informed them and, without my realizing, they returned to my property, cleaned everything up and left quietly. When you do jobs like this, things can go wrong (including the uncontrollable, like inclement weather). What I appreciated was how responsive they were and how they ultimately made it clear that they wanted to do a good job for their customer. Lily, the project manager was great. The crew did a good job. The price was at par with other places but I'll take that + great communication and responsiveness any day. I've already referred them to 3 others in my neighborhood and I will definitely use again."

"Mottern did a fantastic job designing and installing a large flagstone-on-concrete patio for us. The work included excavating and leveling the site, pouring and re-enforcing the slab, and selecting and purchasing the stone, brick and other materials. In addition to the patio, Mottern also filled in an approx. 12 sq/ft section of brick wall where a door had been converted to a window. The filled-in brick and mortar matches the original 50-year old wall perfectly. Overall, the entire Mottern crew was prompt, responsive, professional, and very skillful. We would definitely use Mottern again."

"I have never done a project like the patio they did and I could not be happier with the process, and the work Mike and his team did. He helped my wife and I scope out the project and listened to what we wanted and how we wanted to use the space. His suggestions were thoughtful and the end product turned out just as we had envisioned. There was no pressure during the process and he took all the time we needed to answer questions. His crew worked incredibly hard every day they were here, and you could tell they took pride in their work, focused on little details I couldn’t even envision, and had fun while doing it. This definitely showed in the end product as it looks great and I am extremely happy with the quality."

"Perfect, 2 courteous gentlemen were here for 2 days and redid our front patio that my parents build 16 years ago. Some of the rows of bricks were sinking. They took all the bricks up and repaired the border and laid the bricks back down and the patio looks brand new. It truly looks professional now and the guys were a pleasant to work with."

"Julio is the best! Our yard was full of weeds and our trees really needed a good “hair cut”! Julio always treated customers’ gardens as his own. He would consider all the factors for you and came out with a full scale of plan which has long term result. That’s the reason why we keep hiring him!"

"<p>I wasn't sure if I wanted the stamped concrete option verses the pavers when I first started my search so I decided to select a few specialists for both the stamped concrete and the pavers.</p> <p>I quickly decided against the stamped concrete option. It offered far more patio for the money. Yet, the warranties were the worse of the choices.</p> <p>Of the remaining choices for the paver patios, Mike's quote was the highest...and to be quite frank, First Impression Hardscape offered the lowest of square footage for the cost of the possible contractors for the job.</p> <p>Here were the deciding factors for choosing the company that offered a little less patio for a little more money:</p> <p>*I wanted high quality work over considerable size</p> <p>*We decided on Nicolock pavers and the Nicolock manufacturer performed extensive screening prior to deeming the company a recommended contractor</p> <p>*HomeAdvisor also perform extensive background checks and screening and deemed the company a recommended contractor for the job.</p> <p>*First Impression Hardscapes uses many of the suggested techniques the Nicolock manufacturer suggests as "best practices"...So, we got to watch videos on the Nicolock site and knew exactly what steps would be taking to install our patio prior to the actual installation. It was fun knowing the different stages in advance and watching it play out.</p> <p>*First Impression Hardscapes' technique was slightly more extensive then the other contractors. Neither of the other possible choices used edge-restraints. FIH also used something a bit better than the usual poly-sand for insect and weed control.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>When spending thousands of dollars on a project for the home...of which I have little prior experience with soliciting help...the above mentioned factors played a significant part in my decision!!!</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Of course, after any huge purchase decision, a given buyer tends to have a bit of buyer's remorse...Such the case with me...Well, Mike, our primary point of contact, is great with handling buyer's remorse. He's confident about his products and services. Yet, he will let you brainstorm and question EVERYTHING until you've got it out of your system. He endured many many inquiries. He endured so many long-winded emails about the cost, process, color choices. (By the way, I strongly advise against making a color choice from the Nicolock catalog, very deceiving...Best to visit a stone store and see for yourself.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Well, I went to two stone stores...I didn't speak with a representative either time. I found a color I loved at one store...thinking it was the same as the color I saw in the catalog. Then I went to another store, assuming the display was exactly the same and the same color looked awful. So, we left it up to Mike to choose something he thought was suitable to our taste as well as resale value, and...as life would have it, he ended up choosing the original color that we saw and loved at the first stone store we visited.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>About the actual process. The pavers were laid perfectly. The guys arrived on time each day. They WORKED!!! Great attention to detail. They clearly knew what they were doing and had some training in "professionalism" as well as the actual job at hand. The clean-up effort was as superb as the actual installation!</p> <p><br /></p> <p>They met my expectations...I chose First Impressions because based on the Angie's List reviews as well as the endorsement from highly reputable companies, I felt like I couldn't lose. I felt like I greatly optimized my chances of getting the best quality patio possible by selecting First Impression Hardscapes. The company didn't let me down!!!</p> <p><br /></p> <p>My neighbors fell in love with the workers! My neighbors are extremely particular about the upkeep of our cul-de-sac and antennas go up at the thought of anyone getting major work performed to the outside of the properties. Yet, all were pleasantly surprised, and the installation itself, the speed, as well as the clean-up efforts far exceeded their expectations!!! The neighbors are ecstatic!</p> <p><br /></p> <p>I think FIH is going to land another sale in my neighborhood very soon!!!</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Mike and John...We LOVE your crew!!!! Thanks for everything!!!!</p> <br />"

"Fantastic! Professional service, four Leland Cyprus trees two stories tall, carefully removed, stump ground, fresh top soil for new arborvitae which were planted and staked well. New plantings were spaced well and soil tamped around root ball. Mulch applied.Old plant material removed and yard neat as a pin when work completed. The work was done very well with a knowledgeable crew , friendly, and they show pride in their work. I would highly recommend their services. My landscape looks fresh and new, very happy with a job well done."

"I reached out to Cassella Landscaping to build a new retaining wall and patio in my back yard. I got estimates from six different companies before choosing Cassella. I will explain why I chose Cassella over the others, and why I am so glad I did. They were amazing! I did my research and read so many reviews. Cassella clearly had highly satisfied customers. Elijah, the owner, personally came out to talk to me about my project. From the start of my interaction with Elijah, I could tell this company was different. He listened to what I wanted done and my concerns about cost just like the other companies. But then what happened next was what made Elijah stand apart from the rest. I had made it clear that I was concerned about price and wanted options to consider how much of my project I could actually afford to do. He took the time to ask me questions to understand why I wanted this space, how I planned to use it, and which parts of the project were most important to me. And then he not only gave me options, he helped me refine my vision for the space to help me see what I could get done within my budget. He clearly cared enough to not just get the job, but to make sure I would be happy with the outcome. He was the only company who also told me that he would have one team working only on my project from start to finish. And he offered a warranty. The process of working with Elijah and his team was great all the way through. He answered all of my questions in a timely manner, and he communicated frequently. He had a team that was with my project from start to finish. They were hard workers, polite, and kept everything as clean as possible throughout. They cleaned up everything at the end, as well. They started when they said they would, and they completed the project right on schedule. The final project looks amazing. I couldn't be happier. I can't wait to get my new patio furniture so that we can start enjoying this new space when the weather is nice. My finished project is a retaining wall (3 feet tall by 40 feet wide) and a patio (12x24 feet) with beautiful pavers on both. The landscaping around the wall and patio was just what I wanted with river rock and plants. He transplanted the young trees that I wanted to keep and helped me pick out plants for the rest of the project. I had not imagined including lighting, but Elijah suggested it, and the lighting is beautiful. I also had a walkway installed that matches the paver patio style. It all looks so great, I am very happy with it. I highly recommend Cassella Landscaping. Elijah and his team were such a pleasure to work with and the finished project looks amazing."

FAQs for interlocking pavers for patios, walks & steps installation projects in Middleburg, VA

To calculate your paver needs:

  • Determine how many pavers cover a square foot.

  • Determine how many square feet you need.

  • Add an additional 10% to 20% for breakage and waste.

  • Consider your pavers’ sizes.

Or, you can hire a local pro who you know will get the right measurements the first time. This way, you get your weekend back instead of spending it measuring square footage.

A pallet of pavers costs $300 to $700 on average, and each pallet covers 56 square feet. The exact price depends on the type, size, and quantity of pavers you choose. Buying in bulk can sometimes offer additional savings, especially for larger projects. Ask your pro how you can save on material costs.

To get the best prices on pavers:

  • Hire a professional landscaper: Pros often receive discounts on materials, which can make hiring them more cost-effective overall.

  • Shop at local building supply stores: Check for overstock or bulk purchase deals. Bulk purchasing can be more costly up front but save you money in the long run.

  • Buy directly from manufacturers: Purchasing from a local brickyard or paver factory can offer competitive prices, especially for large quantities.

The main difference between driveway pavers and patio pavers is their load-bearing capacity. Driveway pavers are designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, whereas patio pavers aren’t suitable for such heavy loads. You can use driveway pavers for a patio, but using patio pavers for a driveway could lead to damage. Always check the weight limits of pavers and consult with a professional installer to choose the right type for your project.

Paver patios cost more than concrete patios because the materials and installation methods require advanced techniques and skilled labor. They deliver enhanced aesthetic appeal and allow for easier small‑scale repairs without affecting property taxes. The higher expense arises from premium paver materials and intricate installation processes that deliver long‑lasting durability and design flexibility. This robust solution provides notable benefits over concrete alternatives, making it a valuable investment for homeowners.
