"I asked for three quotes from Angie's List. I had chosen a large home services company from the list, and Angie's supplied me with two other names nearby. Borselle was the only contractor who called back and discussed the project. His call was very prompt, within a day. We asked him to replace a toilet with a quality water-saving model, and he was very knowledgeable and helpful in choosing a model, which he purchased and brought with him. It was a great choice. He also was helpful in answering other questions that we had. Plus, his price for the replacement was one-third less than the giant home repair company that had done similar work a year before. Borselle is definitely our new go-to plumber."

"We had a little issue - did not ask a lot of questions or do a visual inspection before snaking our shower drain - turns out we should not have done that due to this drum trap we had. Long story short ending up breaking a pipe - but it was all so old we needed to get it replaced anyway. I had to fight for what I thought was right, but at the end of the day they took care of the price and the situation. Overall this company is probably too expensive for their quality of services, but they were very kind and worked hard to fix this situation."

"Mike was great. He was early for our appointment and he went right to work finding the problem. He had to remove a part of the pipe and replaced it right away. Problem solved. Drain was draining perfectly. Everything was cleaned up and done in record time. We will definitely use them again as we are seniors and we live in an old home with old plumbing. Thank you for solving our problem."

"Advance Plumbing is outstanding. In the past 3 years they have been doing small jobs of unclogging drains, but just recently I had a big project. The main line (cast iron line in my cellar ) cracked. They came down and had to remove that pipe and re-plum over 100 feet of pipe. They took the pipe out and installed new piping in less then 6 hours and left the cellar in a lot cleaner then they found it (that's in a clay cellar). The lady in the office (Nicole) was fast in getting help to us. I would recommend them for any job from plumbing and heating. GOOD PEOPLE"

"We noticed that our outdoor hoses were leaking despite the fact that we kept turning it off, and we worried that it could have frozen given the erratic weather, so we called Mark to check on it. He was able to come out right away, and noticed that the valves were not functioning, so he replaced them. He then demonstrated how to use the new valves, and gave us some guidelines for how to manage the hoses during the cold weather. <br /> While he was in the basement, he also noticed that the water filter was being held in place by plastic nuts, which were not stable. He suggested that we upgrade to copper in order to avoid any flooding in our finished basement. After answering a few questions, he said he had the parts with him and could do it immediately. <br /> He was in and out within about a hour, answered all of the questions we had, and was overall very professional and friendly. We will definitely call him next time we need a plumber, and would recommend him to friends and family. <br />"

"Jim responded to my call for service very quickly and set up the appointment the same day. They were working on another project but agreed to come to our house to clean the drain after 5pm, without additional charge. Ed kept me updated with his schedule and kept the promise to come for service. He took time to pinpoint the issue and got the job done with very reasonable price. Drain Rite brothers are professional, effective and candid, and they did an excellent job. Would strongly recommend! <br />"

"Mark has become my go-to plumber for everything. Most important is that he does the work well, because I want those plumbing connections to last for decades. (I'm sure everyone feels this way, but most reviewers can only judge how well a contractor cleans up afterwards, which is not important in the long run.) I also appreciate his ability to squeeze a task into his schedule without a long wait, and his affordable prices. ------------------------ Some reviews comment on Mark (and of course many other contractors) showing up late for a job sometimes. The only contractor who you can count on showing up on time is the one who has no other job before yours that day. Unless you took the first slot of the day, that empty schedule means the contractor isn't very busy, which often means the contractor doesn't do good work or is just starting out on his/her own. That's because construction work is full of surprises, typically unpleasant ones that make jobs take longer than they should. Scheduling defensively wastes the contractor's time and makes the average customer wait longer for service. The result is that contractors, like doctors, often aren't ready at the scheduled time. If you want to maximize the chance of a contractor showing up on time, choose a day where you will be their first customer. (Though recognize that like a doctor's office, even then an emergency could pull them away.) As a customer, I don't mind waiting for a contractor, because I understand about the surprises, because the quality of work matters most to me, and because my schedule at home is flexible."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Middletown, CT

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
