"Excellent work.  One of the best service providers we've ever worked with in terms of quality, responsiveness, and attention to detail.  Holton Brothers even exceeded the expectations of my perfectionist apartment manager, and that is no easy feat. <br />"

"We were out of town while the work was done, and when we returned, we realized that the wrong light fixture had been installed in the foyer (we were also replacing a light over the dining room table; that one had been put up in the foyer instead of the one meant for the foyer). We called and promptly had workers out to fix the problem, which involved placing scaffolding so not an easy quick fix. We were very pleased with the quick response to correct a mistake. We were overall very pleased with the workmanship and helpfulness of all of the individuals that we worked with. <br />"

"Very satisfied with cost and workmanship.  Original contact was to repair wind damage on shingled roof.  Unlike other roofing contractors I contacted, the response was fast.  The 40 plus years of experience showed as the temporary repair was done immediately without any hassle of cost.  The cause of the wind damage was shown and explained as improper nailing of shingles. To my surprise it was suggested, that because of a current materials special, it would be more cost effective to install a new metal roof over the old shingles rather than replacing the old shingles.  A new metal roof, with all of its advantages, cheaper than new shingles! <br /> I said I was interested, and they took a lot of measurements.  A couple days later I received an estimate via E-mail. I also asked about financing.  The only option was  like a credit card application (5% up front and high interest after 1 year).  After working out alternative financing from my bank, I then responded via E-mail to proceed.  They came out again and made more measurements. They wanted advanced payment for the materials with final payment upon completion. <br /> A couple weeks later the new metal roof install began.  It was a three man crew, they worked professionally, took their time and did it right.  The weather caused multiple delays extending the work over about 3 weeks.  The new roof is impressive, several people stopped by to ask for name of contractor. <br /> <br />"

"Fine, Jack was quite nice to deal with, arrived on time after hours to fit our (7 pm) schedule. He came fully prepared with his license, insurance paperwork, references, etc. Looked at our project, came up with estimate on the spot. He also offered us a 10 percent discount to do both windows at the same time as we were undecided as to do one or two. The price above reflects that discount. He was very good about following up with us a few days later and answering any questions. In the end we found a number of lower bids (those did not include the dirt haul away, so that might be important to some) and we chose one of those."

"Everything went very well. My husband did the prep work they requested (removing paneling and drywall to 18 inches above the floor, cutting the wood studs to that level, and removing carpeting to six inches away from the wall). Two workers from Badger Basement came to our house and were completely done in only two hours. They jackhammered out the existing concrete slab, installed metal channels in the wall to drain any moisture out beyond the foundation, installed a sump pump in the room's closet, and poured fresh concrete to fill the new trench. All work done very professionally and thoroughly."

"I have been fortunate in knowing both Troy and Karen Griffin <br /> for many years. They are honest, dependable, and very professional and <br /> the work is outstanding. <br /> They were very helpful in the entire process of a recent <br /> remodel to my home, advising me on what products and materials were best suited <br /> to the specific projects, to completing the entire remodel ahead of schedule. Troy and his crew were very patient and <br /> took the time to ask what I would like, and to explain everything they were <br /> doing and why. <br /> My home was originally built in 1974, so there were several <br /> issues with energy efficiency and old building materials were not <br /> up-to-date. Troy and his crew removed and re-shingled the <br /> roof, checked the insulation in the roof to find it was missing quite a <br /> bit. This issue was resolved very <br /> quickly and brought up to code. If they <br /> hadn’t taken the time to actually remove some of the roof sheeting, the <br /> insulation deficiency would never have been discovered. <br /> They removed and replaced 17 windows, applying insulation <br /> where there previously had been none or very little. They installed interior and exterior framing <br /> around the windows, and everything looks fabulous! Their work was meticulous and the debris was <br /> completely removed. They also installed <br /> rain <br /> gutters, and replaced structure posts on my covered entry. Troy stands <br /> by his word and his work. I would happily hire him for future <br /> construction needs. <br /> I am not a big fan of winter, but I am looking forward to being <br /> inside my ‘new’ home, staying toasty warm as I enjoy the view from my new <br /> windows!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Minong, WI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
