"Although the roof appeared to be in good condition, I decided to have it replaced as it was over 30 years old. In late September of 2018, I met with Shadowfax roofing estimator John. John was very knowledgeable and understood the issues with the high pitch of the roof. He provided two quotes. The first quote was for the basic Owens Corning Tru Definition shingles ($9,980) and the second was for Duration Premium shingles ($10,580). I opted for the higher quality shingles. Since the gutters were going to be replaced, I requested the wood that extended beyond the roofline be cut in order for the gutters to extend to the end. John explained it would not be a problem, however, any dry rot would need to be removed and replaced with new wood. Additionally, I had requested a vent be added for the bathroom as it was venting into attic instead of through the roof. John also indicated everything could be completed in about 3-4 days. However, it would be about three months before the job wold get done. Since there was no hurry, I agreed. In early November, I received a call from their scheduler, Pam stating the job would start on November 13th. I explained I would be leaving town on November 16th. She stated the job would be pretty much finished by then. Unfortunately, there were some delays. On the first day, the workers did not show up until late in the afternoon to remove the roof. On the second day, work stopped to due to the dry rot issue. Although, I had explained to the foreman on the first day of what I had wanted done specifically, replace any rot and cut all the overhangs, work stopped until I gave the okay to do the repairs. Fortunately, the dry rot was minimal, however, it caused a delay as there was only one person doing the job and he had left for the day. The foreman explained the previous job had some issues, which required their attention. On Friday, the crew for the gutters arrived early in the morning, however, they couldn't do the gutters as the overhangs still needed to be cut. So, crew returned later in the afternoon. Since I was unable to be present when the job was completed, my family supervised. I was informed the work was not completed until Sunday. When I returned home, I noticed the vent I had requested be added was not done. I contacted Pam and she stated it would get done. A few days later it rained. I have had no problems with the roof. Although there was a lack of communication in the beginning and delays, the job was done well. I would hire them again. However, I have learned my lesson that roof replacements should be done in spring or summer."

"RECO Roofing did an excellent job patching up a leak on our roof. After a thorough inspection, they also recommended replacing a few other vents, which made sense and was much appreciated. While we haven’t had heavy wind or rain yet to fully test the repairs, I’m confident in the quality of their work—and it’s reassuring that they back it up with a guarantee. A bonus: during the service, they even took the initiative to clean out an insect nest in one of the vents they didn’t replace. That attention to detail really stood out. Communication throughout the process was outstanding. They were very responsive to all our questions and kept us informed every step of the way. Pricing wasn’t the cheapest, but it was competitive and, more importantly, very transparent. Andres, the project manager, was fantastic—responsible, professional, and made sure everything was completed as expected. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend RECO Roofing to anyone looking for quality work and great service."

"Because of the rains they needed to come up several times to lay materials to protect the roof. They were always timely and courteous during this process and when they put the new roof on. They did a beautiful job with the new roof, were in and out in a short time, and left the property very clean. In short, they were a wonderful Co. to do business with and the new roof is beautiful. I would recommend them unconditionally in the future."

"Alex and his crew were able to schedule our roof replacement around all the rain storms and got it done on time. Everyone was very polite and easy to communicate with. Cleaned up every day so there wasn't a big mess. Worked without any loud music or shouting which is good for me since I work from home. I think the price was fair. They also coordinated with our solar installer to make sure everything got done right."

"Peterson Dean replaced the roof on my house. The estimator was professional and friendly. I was not present during the work. When I went up on the roof later, I was impressed. It looked beautiful, and my skylights were well protected from water runoff, which is what I requested. I'd recommend them, and I'd use them again. <br />"

"The bid was done quickly and once we accepted it, a date was scheduled about a week out.  The rains started before our scheduled repair date and the guys were on the roof the morning of the first rain, completing enough  of the work to prevent the roof from leaking.  They came back and finished the bid on the following Saturday, still before the scheduled date.  We have paid another roofer three times (but smaller amounts)  trying to repair this leaky spot and have never been able to get this leak fixed completely.  Tri City Roofing came out and fixed our problem in about 2 hours and we have had no further problems.  Wish we had used TriCity first instead of trying to work with the other roofer to complete the repair job over a 2 year period.  Tri City Roofing staff were friendly, quick, and as described, really responsive.  We didn't expect them to come out just because it rained since our leak has been ongoing and the damage is already done internally, so this was really a plus.  We are confident we will have no further problems for years to come now that this troublesome spot has been repaired and the rest of the roof has been inspected and prepared for El Nino.  Thanks, TriCity!  The work should last for several years, and as long as it does, the price will be spread out for the years left in the roof and is reasonable. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Mount-Hamilton, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
