"We reached out to four roofing companies to quote our re-roofing project. We compared them on professionalism, quote thoroughness, feeling of trust and integrity with the salesperson, and knowledge. Westshore ranked highest hands down. They were not the cheapest, nor were they the highest bid, but they were the best. We felt so comfortable with Ben, and rather than try to upsell us as others did, he helped us figure out ways we could get the job done within our budget. The quote offered several options which was quite helpful in our choices. During our decision period, we had several questions and he responded immediately every time. When it came time for the work, the crew was always on time and professional. They cleaned up and you could barely tell they were even here at the end of the day. We were glad to see that the crew was able to take several water breaks (in nearly 100-degree heat) and time off for lunch and they still finished the job ahead of schedule. It showed us that Westshore takes care of their crews. We highly recommend Westshore Roofing."

"Although the roof appeared to be in good condition, I decided to have it replaced as it was over 30 years old. In late September of 2018, I met with Shadowfax roofing estimator John. John was very knowledgeable and understood the issues with the high pitch of the roof. He provided two quotes. The first quote was for the basic Owens Corning Tru Definition shingles ($9,980) and the second was for Duration Premium shingles ($10,580). I opted for the higher quality shingles. Since the gutters were going to be replaced, I requested the wood that extended beyond the roofline be cut in order for the gutters to extend to the end. John explained it would not be a problem, however, any dry rot would need to be removed and replaced with new wood. Additionally, I had requested a vent be added for the bathroom as it was venting into attic instead of through the roof. John also indicated everything could be completed in about 3-4 days. However, it would be about three months before the job wold get done. Since there was no hurry, I agreed. In early November, I received a call from their scheduler, Pam stating the job would start on November 13th. I explained I would be leaving town on November 16th. She stated the job would be pretty much finished by then. Unfortunately, there were some delays. On the first day, the workers did not show up until late in the afternoon to remove the roof. On the second day, work stopped to due to the dry rot issue. Although, I had explained to the foreman on the first day of what I had wanted done specifically, replace any rot and cut all the overhangs, work stopped until I gave the okay to do the repairs. Fortunately, the dry rot was minimal, however, it caused a delay as there was only one person doing the job and he had left for the day. The foreman explained the previous job had some issues, which required their attention. On Friday, the crew for the gutters arrived early in the morning, however, they couldn't do the gutters as the overhangs still needed to be cut. So, crew returned later in the afternoon. Since I was unable to be present when the job was completed, my family supervised. I was informed the work was not completed until Sunday. When I returned home, I noticed the vent I had requested be added was not done. I contacted Pam and she stated it would get done. A few days later it rained. I have had no problems with the roof. Although there was a lack of communication in the beginning and delays, the job was done well. I would hire them again. However, I have learned my lesson that roof replacements should be done in spring or summer."

"They were super excellent. I cannot recommend them enough. They did my roof 25 years ago and when it wore out, we cannot have wood shakes in our area anymore so I had a composition roof put on and they were just excellent."

"I was contacted right away and the work was measured and the samples were left. The installer followed up by email about colors and gutter style. When we were on the same page for the work, it was done on time and the gutters have been great in the last couple of rains and wet, foggy mornings. <br />"

"My husband and I had no previous experience reconstructing entire rooms or plumbing systems in our home, and this was our first substantial renovation project that affected our living space. After interviewing several contractors we hired V & G Builders, the primary operator of which is Robert Varga, who performed most of the renovation himself with some aid from assistants. Here are some notes from our experience working with Robert: - There was minimal b.s. involved, both in the cost estimate and construction process with him. We were able to establish such a good working relationship with him very quickly because he meets you where you're at; he's very frank without being pushy, doesn't overreach, doesn't over-promise on things he can't deliver, over-schedule, etc. He does the thing that works for you, versus the most involved or expensive thing possible. Very real and easy to discuss every aspect of the project with. The cost estimate was very clear, the payment schedule very easy and he didn't leave tons of room in the contract for potential added expenses or padding of costs in general. - He had a great deal of patience with our endless questions, and provided a lot of guidance throughout the entire process. He's very knowledgeable and is reliably honest about more difficult aspects of a project. He worked with my incredibly busy and very challenging work schedule, and still managed to make all of the logistics work for our project in spite of our varying availability. - Reliable communicative. He was very clear with us about process and timelines, and he consistently adhered to the plans that we made together and didn't change things around constantly, which would have been very stressful for us. Also Robert reliably shows up 15-20 minutes before the appointment time. We personally happened to have a lot of non-construction related, stressful things going on at the same time as this project and when we had to switch things around, he worked with us and managed never to get as outwardly annoyed as I would have been in his place. - We had no real problems with any of the work Robert or his partners did but when the few minor things in the installation process came up that weren't what we expected, he fixed it and resolved the issue immediately without any drama so that everything was in line with our plans and requests. - Subcontractors he uses that were involved in our particular project included those for plumbing, shower glass installation and wall texturing. Everyone Robert had working in our home was very professional and easy to work with. - It's nice to work with someone who is simultaneously professional and friendly. You spend a lot of time with total strangers in your home during projects like this, and Robert is easy to be around. We also have two super annoying small dogs that I'm sure were obnoxious, but he was really cool with them and if they got on his nerves he never showed it. - Overall we were happy with the outcome of the project as a whole. The bathrooms look great, are exactly what we asked for, and did not substantially exceed the initial budget that we started with."

"They did what they said they would do and when they said they would do it. Roof looks good and the clean up was also good. The people working on the project were professional. The only thing was communication. Needed a little more conversation over the phone to confirm arrival on first full work day. The sales rep showed up to lay down a plastic cover over a suspected leak and it held up during some very blustery rain. Over all excellent work but expensive."

"Called them after seeing a special offer on an infomercial. I've had solar panels for over 15 years, which I installed myself, so I'm probably more informed on what I needed vs. what they were trying to sell. To my pleasant surprise, the package that the sales rep put together was in line with what I wanted. Since this was in addition to the existing panels, which already occupied the prime roof area, the planning and layout was probably more challenging than a standard job. Since PD is a big organization, sales, planning and permitting, and installation were all handled by different departments, but we had a single coordinator that was in communication with us by phone and email as we went through each stage. They were great in getting through the planning and approvals, especially with getting the information for our HOA and interfacing with PG&E. The main installation of the panels and wiring was completed in less than a day! (It took me several days to install my first system, 15 years ago.) After a couple of quick returns to install an additional ground rod and install the monitoring interface, we were done. The improvements in the panels and supporting electronics over the last 15 years is impressive. One of the key factors in deciding to add the extra panels was the low-interest financing. With a 12-year loan, the loan payment is essentially offset by the reduced electricity bill (since it's adding to my exiting system, the savings aren't as great as a new install), but I know that these panels can keep producing way past the last loan payment. But, the main reason I added the panels was to cut down on fossil power. I don't consider myself a tree hugger by any stretch of the imagination, but if I can help slow the meltdown of the planet, even a little, without any dollars out of my pocket, and eventually same some bucks in the process, why not?"

"We had cedar siding, which I loved, but it was being attacked by acorn woodpeckers and needed to be replaced. We had a really large project and I was very pleased with the whole process. We worked with Mike. The crew was managed by Vlad. They were all professional, prompt, hard-working and concerned that the job was done correctly. And they were very pleasant to have around. They worked on our job for about two weeks. They also arranged to have our gutters and downspouts replaced and painted under the eaves and the doors etc. We are very pleased results and their attention to detail. The house looks brand new. I am pleased each time I walk in and we are very happy we decided to go ahead with the project. They are also working on a separate scope to replace some doors. That task is still in process. We still have a couple of items on our punch list, but I have every confidence that they will be dealt with when they come to install the doors. In addition we are going to replace our deck and Mike helped us connect with someone to do that. We are very happy with the whole organization and would use them again and would recommend them to anyone looking for quality work."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Mount-Hermon, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
