"This was a job my dad keep putting off until the heating season was upon him. <br /> Mel was very responsive to my call and scheduled his soonest visit.  With my dad on board, Mel was able to schedule his team a week later for the job.  This was the replacement job we asked for, to add more life to the house, and it was no easy task.  The furnace itself had to be brought down through a tight spot, and installed in a tight spot as well with the multitude of older pipe connections.  It took a team to do the job and they finished it later that same day with the heating test.  Mel also had someone follow up a week later to tune and flush the system by skimming it at the boiler.  My dad had been forced to manually run the previous system due to it's age and pressure leaks, but Mel was very considerate to my dad's needs and questions even though there should be little to no trouble with the new system.  A job well done beyond the call. <br />"

"Thursdays I take out the garbage and check on the furnace. I’m a creature of habit. I drain a little water out of the furnace and turn the gauge to add water up to the line. But it will not shut off. I’m WAY over the line. I run to my main and shut my water off there. It’s after hours, so I paged Tom Thomas. They responded quickly, but couldn’t make it out until the morning. So they walked me through a little troubleshooting over the phone. After checking a few things, the responding plumber asked, “is the handle to the shut off parallel or perpendicular to the pipe right now?” I told him it was parallel. A bit of silence, then he calmly and respectfully said, “ok, ma’am, your valve is fully open right now. I’m just going to need you to turn that to perpendicular, then slowly turn your main back on.” I apologized and told him how silly I felt, and thanked him not for laughing (not while he was on the phone with me at least). He said, “I’m happy to save you money and me a trip.” I promised I’d write a resounding review of their professionalism even in the face of my Lucille Ball-level flightiness. This is my first of many. Thanks, guys! I look forward to calling you for an actual issue one day!"

"I've known Bob Walter, our plumber ever since we bought our summer home in the Pocono mountains, PA, 15 years ago.  We keep using him, because he has always been reliable and efficiently corrects whatever problem we have. Normally, we ask him to help when we close up our Pocono home at the end of December and he evacuates the water from all pipes so we can turn off the heat without experiencing water freezing problems (This past year, neighbors tell us the temperature stayed in single digits for almost two weeks straight)  In the summer, when we escape Florida's heat, he comes over to reconnect the fittings and makes sure everything works right.  <br /> Through the years, he has performed many small repairs as well, as today, when he diagnosed a problem with our garage hose bib, and replaced a broken shutoff valve. <br /> <br /> <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Mountain Top, PA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
