"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I arrived at the home 30 minutes early and he was already there. He told me exactly what he does and all the major systems in the home will be inspected from top to bottom and explained it so I could comprehend it. We then began on the outside and he explained everything as he went over it and suggested ways of fixing the problems and offered references if I needed them. We got to the inside and again he showed me things he looks for, the condition of my situation and ways to fix it or things that should be monitored. He addressed areas I had questions about and I felt very comfortable with his answers and explanations. I would highly recommend this company for your home inspection."

"Quality work with a lifetime guarantee on no cracks and a dry basement. I originally had a problem with the way an employee explained the warranty to me. She indicated that it was void because I had not contacted the company within 30 of my brother's death. However, a spokesperson from the company today told me that that was incorrect information. They are restoring the lifetime warranty in my name at no charge. I am pleased with how they handled my complaint."

"The initial contact was good and the price was fair. So they started the work and replaced the flat roof which went well. Then when they started on the chimney they found they would need to remove some of the roof to access everything which would be some additional cost. I agreed to this and they started the work but then there were delays and communication issues for over 2 months. They ended up not completing the job and leaving me high and dry to complete it myself."

"On the recommendation of our realtor, my husband and I had Mike at BrickKicker do a pre-buy house inspection. We found him to be very thorough, knowledgeable and professional. He took a lot of time to answer our questions as he went through the house. The report we got back was detailed, concise and easy to understand. Because of what we learned about the property from Mike, we have a better idea of what we might be taking on and are able to make a more informed decision. We are 100% satisfied and would absolutely utilize Mr. Ewoldt's services again. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Muscatine, IA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
