"They were subcontracting from another company. Menno was great. They did a good job. They did excellent work. They were pleasant to work with. They continued to work. They didn’t take time off and go sit around or anything like that. They did the job. They did it efficiently and did it well. We were pleased with their work. With regard to price, he was subcontracted, so the price was through the other company that was subcontracting."

"Sam and his crew were great. The entire roof including tear-off was done the same day on a fairly large roof with several steep pitches. They even replaced all of the roofing vents with vents that matched the color of the shingles. Their pricing for the job was incredible - I don't think you'll find a better price. Only area for improvement would be in the cleanup category. It's understandable that roofing staples will fall into the grass from the tear-off process - 2 of my kids ended up stepping on those and getting cut pretty bad as those staples are beefy. However you are not going to find many roofing companies that will "roll" the yard with those magnetic rollers that will pick up nails and staples, so this issue just goes with the territory. The rest of the cleanup was fine."

"I contracted Key Exteriors for window replacement for my entire house. Most of the 14 windows were rather large. Rob and the crew did an excellent job installing the windows and made sure the mess was minimal. Everything was picked up and the old windows hauled away. Rob and the crew from Key Exteriors did a superior job and are welcome back to my home in the future."

"I am pleased with the roofing job, and they are going to do some windows with me. Everything was explained very well, and they worked with me on the price of the windows. I would recommend them"

FAQs for wood shake or composite roofing installation and replacement projects in New Haven, IN

Cedar shakes and wood shingles might seem similar, but they have some important differences. Cedar shakes are hand-split, giving them a unique, textured appearance that adds rustic charm to your roof. They're great for homeowners who want a distinctive look. Wood shingles, conversely, are machine-made, providing a smooth, uniform appearance for a more modern look. Shakes tend to be more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved but offer exceptional beauty and resilience.

A well-maintained cedar shake roof can last up to 60 years. However, factors like severe weather and improper ventilation can reduce its lifespan. You should consider replacing your roof if you notice persistent leaks, visible water damage, curling or splitting shakes, moss growth, rot, or missing shakes. Regular inspections can help you determine when it's time for a replacement.

When hiring a roofing contractor for your cedar shake roof, asking the right questions is important. Make sure they are fully certified and have extensive experience with cedar installations. Verify that their team is licensed, bonded, and insured. Ask for details about the materials they use, such as the type of underlayment and fasteners, and how they ensure proper ventilation. Getting multiple written estimates can help you compare options and choose a contractor who offers quality workmanship at a fair price.
