"Golden Hammer did an amazing job on our very 80s kitchen! They did a complete gut job, replaced walls, painted, installed new cabinets, countertops, and backsplash. Drew and Shawn are extremely professional, transparent, and responsive. Julio and Steven were also great and professional. We felt safe and comfortable having them in our home. Although they were not the cheapest option, they were very clear on pricing. No items from vendors or subs were marked up - instead, the quote has a line that shows their profit. This was really helpful as we could get a clear handle on costs. They also contract with a real artist for tilework. We had a different pattern for our backsplash that involved "random" placement of certain tiles. Robert took extra care to ensure he understood the pattern, and the result is stunning. The only con is that our main lead was let go from the company towards the end of our job. This meant that some final touches were dragged out a bit longer than we felt they should have been. However, this was minor and handled with us in a professional way. We would happily work with Golden Hammer again!"

"I have an older home with hardy board siding. Don and Eric replaced damaged areas and repainted my entire home. They not only did a superior job, but they were professional and finish everything neatly and in a timely manner. I was very impressed. I will use Don and Eric for future tasks if needed and recommend them to all my friends."

"Took about three months. The granite counter-top was incorrectly measured, as well as late, so the dishwasher would not fit, and a low wall had to be demolished and a new one built to accommodate the change. Quality of the reconstruction was poor. The old cabinets were repainted. The finished quality was indifferent. Several doors were incorrectly reattached, and remain so to this day. At one point we were washing our dishes for over a week with a hose under a tree. The dishwasher has never been installed correctly. Covid-19 precautions were usually non-existent. The workmen were friendly enough. The owner claimed they did not have to repaint the lower lever inner cabinets and charged us more for that. Much of the paint was abandoned in open cans oin the Florida Room. They started chasing us for the balance payments within a few weeks. I didn't even know the job was done. It didn't seem finished to me. When I tried to voice or text the owner, he did not respond; rather he ignored us, but he sure responded when I didn't finish the payments; he started calling every day! There was no supervisor on or off site, no one to discuss issues with except one carpenter. I had to show one of the workers how to fit a cabinet, as he had installed most of them upside down. The company fought with the granite company. It was at certain times a disorganized mess. The finished product was not to a professional standard. I say this as a former Licenced Florida Building contractor (retired). I will need to hire workers to set the problems right. I have asked in an email and a text for compensation, but no answer has been received to this request."

"Were told the project would take approximately 3 weeks and they took over 8 weeks. The contract said workers would be here 8 am to 5 pm but they would show up around 9:30 and leave by 4. There were 5 days when no one showed up to work. When there were problems they made mistakes on the corrections. The walls were not prepped correctly so the paint turned out awful. Also the person in charge of the work crew did not return calls in a timely manner and had an attitude when we mentioned things to him. One of the workers was always saying he had to run out to get something and took 2 to 3 hours before returning. Another one went outside to smoke every little bit. He tried to smoke by the door but my husband put a stop to that since I have asthma and the smoke bothers my breathing. The owner did try to make amends but the same workers came back for the corrections and did a bad job still. We just paid them to get them out of our lives. So unless you have a long time to get a project done and do not care how rough it turns out I would not recommend this company."

FAQs for kitchen remodel projects in Newberry, FL

Your galley kitchen needs adequate clearance around any island installation to maintain functionality. Most galley kitchens lack sufficient width for traditional islands, as these layouts prioritize efficiency in smaller spaces.

If your kitchen has an unusual width, consult with a kitchen designer who can evaluate your specific dimensions and recommend appropriate solutions. For narrower spaces, consider alternatives like rolling carts or narrow work tables that provide additional surface area without permanently restricting movement.

Kitchen remodels require six to 10 weeks for completion, though timelines vary based on project scope and material availability. Simple updates like cabinet refinishing and countertop replacement might finish within a few weeks, while comprehensive renovations involving structural changes often extend beyond two months.

Planning stages add approximately four weeks before construction begins. Maintaining clear communication with your contractor and ordering materials early helps prevent unnecessary delays.

Common errors include insufficient clearance between opposing countertops, inadequate lighting that creates shadowy work areas, and poor storage planning that leaves countertops cluttered. Some homeowners select oversized appliances that overwhelm the space or invest in expensive features that don't address fundamental workflow issues.

Careful planning, accurate measurements, and consultation with experienced professionals help avoid these pitfalls and ensure your renovation successfully addresses your kitchen's specific challenges.

Whether expansion makes sense depends on your home's layout, your budget, and your long-term plans. Combining a galley kitchen with neighboring spaces creates more open, flexible layouts that many buyers prefer. However, removing walls involves substantial costs, particularly if they contain plumbing, electrical systems, or structural elements.

Sometimes, optimizing your existing galley layout through better storage solutions and lighting proves more cost-effective than expansion. Consult with a contractor to evaluate specific costs for your situation.

Effective galley kitchen lighting combines multiple sources to eliminate shadows and create visual spaciousness. Overhead fixtures provide general illumination, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates work surfaces directly. Consider recessed ceiling fixtures that don't protrude into limited headspace.

Lighting with dimming capabilities allows adjustment for different activities. Reflective surfaces like glass tile backsplashes or glossy cabinet finishes help bounce light throughout the space, reducing the corridor effect common in galley layouts.
