"James was referred by his friend to add an ADU. It's taken several months and this is how it looks. He refused to complete and fix what was already done. I am dissatisfied with James's work. He sent a family member, Roni run the job. Sadly, everything Roni touched was not done correctly. They did ask for money up front. Unfortunately I gave it to them. They didn't complete the job and refused to reimburse me for the errors made. He came to the site and few times and made all kinds of empty promises. He collected $53,000 up front. Now I have someone else who is fixing all of Roni's mistakes, which I will have to pay for again. He took advantage of me. That tells me he is dishonest. This is taking months to complete. I moved here from Florida and have seen whole houses go up in less time. James is dishonest, took money up front, didn't do the work correctly, and refused to reimburse me for what he didn't complete. Now I'm paying someone else to complete the job. Don't use this company"

"He was friendly, very professional, and answered all my questions clearly about how mold happens in a home. His reasonable estimate and scope of work. What are the steps for mold remediation? Furthermore, I had delicate items around the work area. He was very successful in making sure that nothing was damaged. "Think floor demolition in a China shop" where none of the dishes gets broken. I highly recommend restoration Hunter if you have to deal with mold in the home."

"Because we had a roof leak that had caused water damage in a number of areas throughout our house, we were naturally very concerned about the possibility of mold developing. After researching and talking to a number of mold inspectors, we chose to go with Mike Vander Nat at Common Sense Inspections. Mike is extremely knowledgeable and awfully good at what he does. Plus, his fees are competitive. But perhaps more importantly, he's a really good guy who we trusted completely. In our experience, he is as honest and reliable as they come. He took the time before, during, and after the inspection to explain the process, the results, and our options clearly and in detail. I ask a lot of questions and he put up with all of them and totally answered them to my satisfaction. He has all the gizmos to do the job right. And both the inspection and the report he put together for us afterwards were unbelievably thorough. He does his job really well and he's a pleasure to deal with. We recommend him highly and would use him again in a heartbeat."

"We found something looking suspicious while demolishing the roof of an old shed and decided to call Envirocheck. They came the next day on time at 8:30AM, took all necessary samples and gave us results within 24 hours. Luckily the asbestos test was all negative. I would recommend these guys any given day. They are super professional and responsive. Ten stars from our perspective!"

FAQs for toxic lead testing projects in Newbury Park, CA

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a strong chance it contains lead-based paint. Many pre-1980 houses also contain lead in their plumbing and decorative materials, so age alone is a significant red flag. Older homes near industrial areas face an even higher risk. Because you can’t confirm lead by sight, scheduling a test is the safest way to protect your family.

In older houses, lead can lurk in painted trim, window sashes, soil around the foundation, plumbing pipes, and even vintage hardware. The metal is toxic, and children and pregnant women are most at risk. Exposure can trigger developmental delays, learning problems, and organ damage. Because the EPA links even low levels to serious health effects, test every suspected surface and address any hazards right away.

A positive test means lead is present somewhere you can touch, breathe, or disturb. The next step is a full risk assessment to map exactly where the hazard lies and outline the safest fix: encapsulation, enclosure, or full removal. Repairs start at $1,000 but can exceed $10,000 for complete elimination, so act quickly and hire certified pros to keep your family safe.

EPA lead certification proves that inspectors, risk assessors, and abatement contractors follow federal safety rules under the Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program. The credential costs an average of $300, and certified professionals can legally test, contain, or remove lead hazards. Hiring a certified pro protects you from fines and ensures the work meets strict health standards.

Lead-based paint looks no different from any other paint, so you can’t identify it by color or sheen. Even flawless walls may hide it. If paint starts chipping, flaking, or peeling, schedule a professional test right away. Only laboratory-grade testing confirms lead and guides the safest fix for your home.
