Customers say: True professional

"The owner Derek was polite and professional. He gave me an excellent price for what turned out to be a difficult project because there were a lot of tree roots to remove before they could pour the concrete for my patio. The workers were also very polite and did a great job. I would definitely hire them again! R. Jordan"

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Moore is highly qualified and professional. He installed a concrete patio with a brick border for me and I am extremely satisfied. I wanted a patio but I did not know exactly how I wanted it to look. Mr. Moore did a fantastic job - and because of his suggestions, I was able to decide on the style. Mr. Moore has a very positive attitude and completed the job on schedule, even though my timeline was very tight. My patio needed to be completed within two to three weeks, and he delivered as he said he would. He and his staff are honest, courteous, hard working, reliable, and do more than what is required of them. He is pleasant and will do whatever he can to make sure you are satisfied. His prices are very reasonable also. I have more work to be done at a later date, and I will be calling on Mr. Moore again. It was a pleasure doing business with him and his staff."

"Bogey Concrete did an amazing job on extending my patio from a 12x12 to a 15x26! They called within minutes of requesting a quote and came out later that day to see the area and give quote. They did an amazing job and replaced everything that was moved and cleaned up the yard. Great communication and a great job done!! "

"Juan and his crew from Moreno Mix Concrete was the company we went with to enlarge our back patio. After looking at three quotes Moreno was hands up in price. Juan and his crew were excellent, they did a thorough job at communication, work, clean up and completion. We were so pleased we recommend this company to my brother that needed to do his patio. I give Juan and his crew a A+, and we will use again for future concrete projects. "

"The Holderby Brothers run a good business and they seek long-term relationships with homeowners.  This is a good approach and results in a better understanding of the needs of the client.  In my case, I have had them do "handy" work like handing new lights, installing custom chair rails and wainscoting, as well as larger projects like my Stacked Stone custom wall.  They come out a walk the space, which is a process for homeowner to present vision and needs, budget, etc.  Then they provide a written quote with materials, labor and price.  Be sure to ask for separate quotes if you have them look at multiple projects in same visit.  I liked this approach because I was able to prioritize and budget for each project and then decide which ones to start and when. <br /> They are very low-pressure, and will offer flexibility to allow you to bring your own products or have them procure the materials. One example of this was in doing the concrete backer drywall for my wall.  They recommended that, and the result is a sturdier installation!  The owners are very involved, if they use full-time workers or if the special need is to bring in a sub-contractor.   <br /> They are very comfortable with current technology...you can sign things electronically, get receipts to your email, send photos of your desired look (i used a lot of pinterest photos,,,haha), and have an office staff that is available and responsive. <br /> Overall, great company. <br />"

POWELL'S CONCRETE FINISHING

"<p>While discussing cost Mr. Powell asked if the area between a bush and my garage was my property.  I told him yes.  He said that they would need to rent a special piece of equipment to get the concrete from the truck to the construction site at the back of my house.  Excavation was performed on the first day and the forms and concrete work performed on the second day.</p> <p>When the concrete was delivered I noticed that the mixture was being transferred from the truck in the front of the house by a BobCat and a wheelbarrow.  While transferring the mixture there was some spillage onto my yard from both the wheelbarrow and BobCat.</p> <p>When the finishing work was done, I observed one of the workers washing out his wheelbarrow of excess concrete next to a beautiful Crepe Myrtle.</p> <p>The man in charge of the work was Mr. Powell's son.  When Mr. Powell came around to collect payment for the job, he said they would be back to remove the forms and tidy up.  I asked Mr. Powell for an invoice for the work he performed.  He stated that he would have to have it printed at the office and would bring it by when they came back.</p> <p>They never returned to remove the forms or clean up the concrete that they spilled on my grass.  This wouldn't have been an issue if they had rented the piece of equipment they mentioned when estimating the job.  Messages left on Mr. Powell's phone, both cell and office have been unanswered.</p> <p>Mr. Powell never responded to my requests for an invoice and quite frankly the grass has been ruined and will take considerable work for me to restore it.</p> <br />"

"The gentleman who came out was very nice and helpful. He was incredibly honest and upfront, and I appreciated his integrity. Basically, he told that he'd probably have to charge me more than other contractors, and he then referred me to a local company."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Newport, NC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
