"Hands down, Macauley Brothers is the MOST professional company we have ever worked with! Bernie is so responsive and constantly communicated with us throughout the process so we always felt on top of what was happening. His kind nature and professionalism is also evident in his highly skilled crew. They showed up everyday at 7:30am and worked until 7pm...if not later! They were always in uniform, always friendly and watching them work was something the whole family enjoyed. They are experts using machinery, insanely talented stone masons and their attention to detail was evident everyday. I felt like I learned so much from the crew! Gus - the foreman - is simply the best in the business. He made recommendations throughout the process that made our yard even better than we had envisioned. His vision and knowledge is boundless and you'd be hard pressed to find his match elsewhere. Every member of the crew was so great, my youngest son keeps asking when they are coming back! :). Without question, we'll be hiring them again for our front yard in a few years. We also had the pleasure of meeting the landscaping crew for the sod install. Another AMAZING group of guys. We were always impressed to see Bernie show up and work alongside his guys. So professional, caring and kind. His crews love and respect him and he treats them all like family. And Kathleen in the office is fantastic. Professional, friendly and always quick to respond. Overall, there are not enough accolades for this incredible company. Hire them and you will not be disappointed."

"We moved to Bolton to a yard in disrepair and needed help ASAP. I emailed Ronaldo and he got back to me almost immediately and was able to route one of his team over to our home to help. He and the team have been great, If you need a professional, reliable and frankly "nice" landscaping firm, hire them!"

"Project: New vinyl fence to replace old wooden fence, retaining wall/roof water runoff installation, shed removal and relocation, and sod installation. Luan s crew was professional, hardworking, and respectful from start to finish and began the project earlier than expected. The communication with Luan was exemplary and he was professional and quick to respond to minor issues/requests. We are extremely happy with our project!"

"excellent job. Leave the site well cleaned off. Particularly appreciate their communications as each storm is different. They tell you when they will be plowing. They customize their service in terms of how much snowfall you will tolerate without their coming, whether or not to spread ice melter etc."

"John and his team always do a great job. This latest job was one of many that they have done for us and the work has covered a wide range of services - yard waste removal, mulch spreading, stone work, sod, etc. they do it all and I recommend them go everyone. Work is done correctly, at a fair price and as-promised. Everything is handled very professionally. John is hands-on, meaning he is always available for questions, discussion or consults. Just a professional, well-run operation from top to bottom."

Small jobs welcome

"Diego and his crew did a great job! This was a large 1,200 square foot patio area renovation that included a paver patio, pea gravel patio, grass (sod), cobblestones and a new privacy fence. I then hired him to mulch the property (20 yards). He came when he said he would, cleaned up and got the whole project done in a little over a week. Highly recommend!!"

"Roberto and his team were great. We hired them to install Sod on our property. We got a fair proposal quickly and they were able to complete the work in record time. The work is great and the neighbors said we must have hired great landscapers because it looks awesome."

FAQs for sod installation projects in North-marshfield, MA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
