"The folks from Leo Construction showed up when they said and did truly high quality work at a fair price. I would absolutely refer them to anyone for any masonry project."

"Arnoldâ s Masonry and Construction did an exceptional job cleaning up a very old, grass and moss covered patio block front walkway, making it look new again. Although not a big job, Arnold was very responsive and came out quickly to do the work and I found his price fair. I would definitely recommend this company."

"Very professional polite and very respectful. Quote me a price that was cheaper than other two companies. Gave me such a good price I was able to to add additional work for a few more money. Any issues I found later they came back and corrected it. The issue was a few holes in the ground from the trees falling. They came back and filled in the holes and added grass seeds. I am a satisfied customer"

"Nixon and his worker worked straight for 5 hours moving 4 rooms of very difficult and heavy furniture. They then went on to repair a desk and hang a very heavy old mirror. They were wonderful. They are planning on returning in the spring to do some outside garden and yard work. I now know who to call when I need anything and everything done in my house."

"Arturoâ s masonry did an incredible job with my front staircase. They installed 5 steps with brick inlay and thick blue stone treads- not the thin slabs that other contractors may use to save money. It is now 2 years after they installed them, and they have shown no signs of wear. His patio and walkway work are also excellent. He is the best mason Iâ ve ever hired."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Northfield, CT

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
