"EA masonry was fantastic to work with. They are a family business, which we really liked. They were honest, prompt and provided a very competitive price. They made sure to get our inquiry during the build to ensure everything was to our liking. Would definitely hire again. Please note in pictures that we are still fixing door and gutters :-)"

"The Roberto team did an amazing job! Jose showed up the day after we put in the request on Angi to look at the job and give us a quote. We negotiated on the price and his team showed up that day! They removed and took away the extensive dead grapevines and kudzu overgrowth that was entangled in the grapevine. The kudzu had also extended on to three side of our house, which they also removed. Everything now looks so clean and fresh. I would highly recommend Roberto Affordable Landscaping."

"John Darling, the company owner, responded promptly to our request for a quote. He gave us great advice about how to go about repairing our front porch that was composed of brick and flagstones; he suggested replacing the brick with bluestone, which was in keeping with our front stair approach to the front walkway. He told us the flagstone walkway and stone wall could be repaired. John arranged for his team members, Brian and JC, to begin work on our schedule. The project went exceedingly well. We were told the work would take 5 days; it took 6 days because of some small issues along the way, e.g. rotted wood where the porch met the house, the mason's delivery truck left an oil spill on our driveway that needed to be removed. They were clean, quiet, respectful, and diligent in their work, and John checked in with us periodically to make sure all was going well. Importantly, once completed, we were charged no more than the estimate John had originally given us for the project, in spite of the additional work. Our new porch is beautiful, and the repaired walkway and stone wall are completely in keeping with the originals. We highly recommend JD Masonry, without reservation!"

"We had a replacement bulkhead installed and couldn't be happier with the work. The team was responsive and communicative from start to finish. They arrived promptly, completed the job efficiently, and left the site spotless. A few days later, we had heavy driving rain and the inside of the bulkhead stayed completely dry - a true test of quality work! Highly recommend this company for their profesionalism and attention to detail."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Norwood, MA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
