"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"Had couple issues, they left some nails on the ground and apparently on the roof that keeps coming off onto my patio in heavy rains. When it rained my skylight leaked, stained my ceiling. I called and they came right back out and fixed it in the rain. Didn't do anything with my stained ceiling though. Skylight is pretty nice."

"It was for repairing partial damage because the whole ceiling was not done or messed up. repairing the ceiling in two rooms. He was pretty specific in writing down everything that he told me. In the kitchen, scrap the ceiling where the paper was peeling. In the dining room, scrape the ceiling where the paper is peeling. As long the ceiling is sheetrock and is still intact and does not need to be replaced. He would coat the ceiling with quick fit, sand and paint the ceilings in these areas from corner to corner. Using primer with 2 coats If sheetrock needs to be replaced, He would need to do a change order to reflect the additional changes and work. Clean up the areas of work. Labor only $1546.00. For the estimate on supplies $108.00. He did not know what it was underneath so. He told me that. He did not want to peel anything back to see what it was. So he was assuming that it was sheetrock and how he would treat the sheetrock to clean up the area. But if it was something else, then he would have to change the order on it. He said something about, some ceilings you may have to depending on the age of the house and how it is made, he may have to cut it out and replace it. By putting that piece back up there and drywalling it and all that other stuff. I don't have anything else to compare it with. My brother had already hired someone to come out and do that and I did not know that. That was a miscommunication on his part. But I think $1546 is a little expensive for that because he was not doing the entire ceiling. He was specific in what he was going to do. He did let me know that if the composition of the ceiling was different from what he thought it was then his quote would change. He did not say by how much but it would change. He did write down what he thought the ceiling was composed of."

"I had my roof inspected by Veteran Construction. When they told me I had a lot of damage I was hesitant to call in a claim to my insurance company but since my roof was already leaking I thought that I better call in the claim. Veteran Construction helped me work everything out with my insurance company and my roof was approved for a replacement and some of my siding was too. I love my new roof and the experience was easy for me.

FAQs for existing skylight repair, replacements or sealing projects in Overland Park, KS

Yes, skylights can heat your house. Skylights pull in plenty of sunlight, and that solar gain raises indoor temperatures during bright hours. The extra warmth is great in winter, but can feel stuffy in summer. Keep the heat in check with shades, low-E coatings, or reflective films so you enjoy the light without driving up cooling bills.

A newly installed skylight lasts for eight to 15 years when built and maintained well. Regular cleaning, prompt repairs, and removing obstructions such as leaves and debris help keep the unit in optimal condition. Consistent maintenance prevents premature deterioration and keeps the skylight operating safely and efficiently over its lifespan.

Several issues trigger skylight leaks. The unit may not sit flush with the roof, letting water sneak in, or the flashing and weather-stripping could be breaking down. Sometimes it’s just interior condensation that drips when the AC runs hard against humid outdoor air. A quick inspection tells you which fix is needed.

Replacing a skylight takes between three and five hours under straightforward conditions, with professional crews ensuring safe installation. Larger units, custom shapes, very high ceilings, or hard-to-access areas add extra complexity, extending the work time accordingly. Careful planning and expert handling guarantee a secure replacement process even when complications are present.

It is not safe to attempt skylight repair or replacement on your own because the work involves dangerous roof access, handling fragile glass, and managing a heavy frame. Expert professionals provide the necessary skills and safety precautions, ensuring that installations or repairs are performed correctly while preventing injury and additional property damage.
