"I had called and scheduled a service call for 1. a leaky faucet in bathroom 2. changing shower knob <br />  As soon as plumber arrived I showed him the shower knob/valve that i had bought and wanted replaced. He said the service paperwork had just said that it was a shower knob not the whole valve that needed to be replaced. He said it was a much bigger job than the paper work indicated and would take 3 to 4 hours. Also said that since I had bought my own knob and valve that they would not guarantee the work if the shower started leaking. And he said this would be $105/ hour and involve buying another $75 part from them. I had been told none of this over the phone. <br /> At this point, I said I was not sure I wanted to do all shower knob project as no one had explained the time and cost involved. I asked if he could just fix the leaky faucet. He looked at the faucet and asked if I had the "paper work" for the faucet. Given that I bought this house 10 years ago and the faucet was installed by previous owners, i had no paperwork. He said that they don't normally carry the part for this brand. He said he was going to have to take a picture of the faucet and go back to the office to look up the paper work and order the part.  I asked why someone had just not asked me what the make of the faucet was over the phone or asked me to send them a picture. He said this had nothing to do with him but maybe that would have been a good idea. <br />   At this point, I called the office and asked to speak to an owner. I spoke with Justin who was pleasant. Regarding the leaky faucet, he told me they don't necessarily ask people more questions or ask people to send pictures because they have some older clients that wouldn't know. Although frankly, I told him this would have saved me a lot of time and money. Regarding the shower knob he told me it was my fault because I had not mentioned that the shower valve too had to be replaced. Keep in mind that no one asked me if it was just the knob or also the valve. He did say he would talk to the women who answer the phone and he said I would not be charged for this service call.  <br /> After getting off the phone with him, the service technician was able to fix the leaky faucet after all (he found the part after telling me he didn't have it) and for a simple leaky faucet and an entire wasted morning I was charged $179 which seemed high. Also, did not seem in line with Justin telling me I was not going to be charged a service call. But frankly I paid it just to have the entire unpleasant episode over <br />"

"I called Tim this morning after having continual problems with the furnace not starting properly. He was very prompt in returning my call and got me scheduled right in. He is very professional and courteous and explained all that he was going to do. He tested everything before he left and I feel very confident in his work; which is very important. He will definitely be my go to guy with all my future plumbing and heating issues. <br />"

"It was all good until it came time to pay. My husband had a heart attack and we were out of town. I tried to explain but he wanted his money right then. It took some coordination but we got him his money that day. It just made an already stressful situation a lot more stressful. I felt very intimidated. Later he apologized but it just made me nervous. I got the feeling you definitely did not want to mess with him. However his work was good. He did deliver. <br />"

"They did a great job.  The arrived on site every day they worked on time and ready to go.  Within a week my entire basement was stripped down to studs. <br /> They rebuilt my basement including a full bathroom and laundry as well as the main entertainment area. They worked with me through the entirety of the project to work through details and questions that arose on a day-to-day basis. New floors, new drywall, custom walls for my entertainment center, new drop-tile ceiling, new lighting, new plumbing including the installation of all new bathroom appliances. <br /> Great job all around. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Owego, NY

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
