"Basically, I had a cracked patio that former owner agreed to pay $2500 towards the repair of and I had severe drainage issues because there is a hill and water gushes onto patio and into crawl space. Rose's price on patio was higher, but I chose him because he said he would do 2 concrete stairs and the other contractor said he would do cinder block stairs. Also chose Rose because both said I needed a 40' drain created that ran parallel to the patio so the water never got to the patio and Rose was cheaper on that. The bid included $200 for a concrete step which I didn't realize was only for one, my fault since that would likely be too low, but the price was worth it. At the end of the job there were no steps so I asked and he stated he decided it wouldn't be good for either the patio or the house or both and he scratched that off the list of to-dos without consulting me. I still haven't been able to get steps and have to step up (and down) approx. 1-2 feet; I am 64. My brother who has been a concreter dispatcher for 30 years in CA looked at it after the fact and said there is no way he could do those steps for under $1000 and he had to know that. He took out my walkway which had no cracks whatsoever because he said it would help with the drainage and replaced with an exact replica of the previous one. I think he planned on doing something with the dirt between the house and the walkway for drainage but nothing was ever done except for leveling the dirt up to the day before the job "was done". So not sure what I was charged $600 for. He said they were almost done so I asked what about the 40' drain. He stated he had no recollection of us talking about that and I must be thinking of someone else. Finally agreed on a curb to block water for additional $900. Guess happy with, but need to address drainage along curb. Paid him in full which he was very aggressive about even though I had to wait for reimburse. Wouldn't meet me to cash $2500 after got but in his name."

"I called five different concrete companies. John Henry was the best and best priced. His crew got to the job on time and finished in time. He would text me progress as he went as we were gone on a trip. He came back on a Saturday to clean up and make sure everything was in great order. Just Awesome."

"Due to health reasons I wasn't able to pour the concrete I begrudgingly had to hire it done . I am very experienced in all aspects of the business and I feel compelled to let anyone know that if they are looking for a professional company that quality concrete fits the description. They are great men polite, professional and more than fair on the cost. They went above and beyond stopping me from doing the extra I planned on doing and doing it themselves and trying not to accept any extra money I insisted they take it . I can't say enough good things about them 100 percent recommend them."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Ozark, MO

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
