"They did a whole bathroom from the studs to completion. They coordinated everything and I didn't have to worry about anything. This includes, fixtures, texturing and it was high quality. The only thing I did was choose the fixtures. They did outstanding work. They also did work in my closed office-they demolished it and took everything out. this was a big job because it was all built in. They replaced my entryway tile as well as the front doors. They contracted out the hardwood floor down the hall which had been carpet. They replaced some of the hallway molding, also floor molding in a bedroom. The person who coordinated it was amazing and trustworthy! Their tile guy is the best in the world! I won't use anyone else. They went above and beyond. I didn't have to worry about it while I was caring for my Dad. They would call and keep me updated, it was great communication. Darryl was the project manager for both of my homes. Another project; 6 months to 1 yr prior - he worked on my father's home. We decided to do 1 bathroom at a time because my father was ill. WE started in the small bathroom. They put in new floors, new vanity, sink, and fixtures. New bathroom tile, installation of mirrors, fans, accessories, painting, also had a brand new tub put in as well. They replaced insulation underneath the house that was completely wet. They did the molding on the baseboards too. Then, they did the master bathroom later. They knocked out a wall. WE redesigned for wheelchair accessibility. Put in a beautiful shower bench, surrounding ceramic tile floor, travertine counter tops. It's gorgeous! They removed the wallpaper and re textured the walls. Put in new drywall, painted. They replaced a window ledge that had been rotting. The most important thing to me was they worked around my Dad's schedule if he wasn't feeling up to having them there. That was very special to me. My Dad really liked talking to them. They provided that personal touch and were exceptional. I can't say enough nice things about them. They even offered to talk to the insurance guy to help negotiate for the work that was needed. Robert would come out and meet with the insurance agent. He would try to help because they know about construction and what needs done. They have their act together! If I do any other work, I will definitely go to them again. They can do it all!"

"<p>Max Baggett is a great guy to work with, friendly and accommodating.  He always got back to me in a timely manner when I called and explained clearly what he was going to do so I knew exactly what was going to happen. He's not inexpensive but he tries to keep cost down as much as possible while still giving you good quality work. I expect the workmanship will last many, many years.   He and his crew did a first rate job in upgrading my 1950's home.  He gave excellent advice and if he wasn't sure on some decorating point he admitted it.  The kitchen hadn't had any work done on it since the 1960's. The first job I had done was the 3/4 wall height paneling I had installed in the kitchen eating area.  It looks like something from a craftsman house. It instantly added interest in the kitchen. The next thing  was replacing the formica counters in the kitchen with silestone.  I also had a tumbled marble back splash put in at the same time to match the silestone counters.  I am very happy with the results.</p> <p>After that was remodeling the bathroom, also from the early 1960's.  It was gutted.  When replacing some walls it was found to have extensive termite damage, almost all the wood had been eaten where the bathroom window was.  The only thing holding it up was the outside of the house!  Max took me personally to pick out the bathroom sink stone top at a small stone yard so I didn't need to buy a huge piece, I appreciated that a lot.  So I saved  money there.  His talented work crew did a bang up job installing the tile in the room.</p> <p>The next to the last job done was evening and replacing all the floors in the house.  The kitchen floor wasn't the same height as the adjoining floors and people would trip going in or out of the kitchen.  That was fixed.  The carpet in the living room and bedrooms was over 40 years old and was replaced with a dark hardwood floor including the hallway.  New carpeting was installed in the bedrooms.  Crown molding was installed throughout the house.  The crown molding looks especially outstanding in the hallway.</p> <p>The last thing done was installing a gas insert and  covering the original brick fireplace with green marble.  I kept the original wood mantel.  The fireplace is a fantastic focal point of the room now.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>If I should need any more work done I would definitely have Max do the work as it is top quality.</p> <br />"

"The process was very smooth, professional and high quality. We did get the best advise regarding paint products, color and suggestions before commencing the work. CSI painting crew showed up in time, they all were very courteous, respectful of our home and clean up every time before they left for the day. You could barely noticed that painting work was been done. CSI adjusted their schedule to our working schedule. Once the work was finished, we received a visit from the owner and ask us if we were happy with the work, or if we had any suggestions. Something you rarely see. We are recommending CSI painting to all our friends and family."

"The owner, Jon came out and provided an estimate. He bid the lowest and was flexible. Others came close but the issue was timing. During a phone conversation with my wife, Jon agreed to reduce the price by $100 ($2700). During a later conversation with me Jon pled his case to increase the price to the original amount of $2800. Jon felt that $2800 was a more than fair quote and did not want any hard feelings and said he was barely making anything from the deal. I feared that the quality may be compromised and agreed to the original amount. Jon's crew arrived as scheduled and worked well with the builders (KR Construction) who were correcting termite damage and adding decorative beams. (On a side note I will not use KR Construction ever again! This is due to being promised one thing and delivered another. This included the time in which the project could be completed and craftsmanship. I was obviously not a priority for KR). Anyway, Jon's crew were polite and professional. They got the job done in a timely manner however, I believe that the quality of work promised differed from what I received. Jon assured me certain things would be done but this information did not reach his guys on the job. I had to point on several areas of concern which were only partially rectified. Jon did check on his crew several times during the project which I appreciated. During my own inspection of the work I noticed that several areas had not been painted. Granted these areas were not in plain sight (tops of beams, underneath areas out of view if you don't bend over to look) but being the way I am I fully expected such areas to be painted as promised. I wanted all of the old color to be covered and any newly primed wood to be painted also. Jon's guys missed several spots. Jon's self proclaimed "Old school" philosophy of a house being "water tight" did not get to his guys on the job. I was told all gaps would be caulked to stop bugs and moisture in. This did not happen. I pointed several gaps out myself and ended up filling many myself. The color choice was made by us and looks great! Jon and his team did a good job but I feel some short-cuts were made. I expect a job to be done to a standard in which I was promised. Sadly, many contractors fail to deliver. Maybe my expectations are way too high but, I could/would have done a better job myself if time would allow. That's why we pay "professionals" good money to do these things for us. I don't mind paying but I expect what was promised, without me having to micro-manage. The old saying comes to mind, "If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing yourself"....time permitting of course. I would use Jon again but next time would spell out exactly what I want and expect and no payment will be given until I am satisfied."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Pacific Grove, CA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
