"Veneer Building Stone was applied to our home foundation and surrounding front and back porches. Porch surfaces were overlaid with cement and a pattern was applied. A portion of the driveway apron was removed and new was installed to replace the damaged section, and the front sidewalk was resurfaced. All work was done to our satisfaction. The workmen were craftsmen, reliable, and trustworthy. This project improved the appearance of our home and is value added. We recommend Madison County Custom Concrete to those wanting quality masonry work."

"Ryan came over to give me an estimate and was really great. Another company had tried to upsell me and tell me I needed a whole new drain tile system, but Ryan, probably costing himself money, assured me that a new sump pump would solve the problem for a fraction of the cost. <br /> After that, communication was an issue. After I sent in my deposit, nobody got back to me about when the job would happen. Even after they cashed my check, I had to call three days later and get the information myself. And even then, I was just told a couple of days as a range. Every piece of information, be it getting the final estimate, booking the job, or getting the date for the job, I had to initiate contact every time. It was kind of like pulling teeth. <br /> When the crew did come, they worked Friday for about four hours and then left, saying they would finish the job Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. They didn't come back at all that weekend and none of my phone calls or messages were returned. It was extremely frustrating. I understand that things come up and appointments are missed, but to not call and let me know and make me wait around my house all weekend was totally unprofessional. <br /> However, when they did finally come back on Monday, they got the job done and it looked great. They did a very professional job and they worked their a**** off. I really appreciate that. The communication problems were frustrating, but the job itself, when completed, was excellent. <br /> <br />"

"Working with Dave and his crew was an excellent experience. They provided top notch service and explanation of the process involved. Our garage floor had over 40 years of road salt and chemical from Illinois winters. The floor had a couple of large cracks and a significant area of pitting and wear from the limestone in the concrete being eaten away by the salt. The floor now looks like a masterpiece. We've already experienced a snow an the floor cleaned up wonderfully. I'd highly recommend Concrete Ink!!"

"We asked Bob to build a 24'x14' deck and reuse the original footings of a deck we had torn off the previous year. He did a terrific job of creating a flat deck while managing our sloping yard. He added access stairs on both sides of the deck which makes navigating the yard so much easier. Bob said he was an experienced landscaper so we asked him about trimming our overgrown trees and improving access in the yard with a rock border. He designed it and laid in tons of rock by himself. We ended up with a very low maintenance yard as the rock rings the trees and makes mowing so much easier. We and our neighbors are loving the improvement the deck and rock border have brought to our yard. We will definitely call Bob again!"

"I walked into my basement on Saturday afternoon to discover a pool of water on the floor.  Looking at the walls I traced it back to right above the window that sits below my kitchen sink.  I popped the paneling off the top of the window box and immediately saw that the galvanized pipe leading from the sink drain to the stack had corroded and a hole had formed.  Frantic because it was 4pm on a Saturday and I knew I couldn't use my kitchen sink or dishwasher until I got this fixed (no easy task with two toddlers to keep up with), I jumped onto Angie's List looking for a plumber with Saturday hours and a good rating.  <br /> I called McDonagh and was told they could have someone at my place in an hour.  Todd showed up at 5:30 and immediately got to work.  Patrick (the owner) showed up with his son Nolan shortly thereafter to take a look and get Todd some parts off of his truck.  We gave Nolan a piece of the pizza my kids were having for dinner as an apology for interrupting his Saturday too.  Patrick came back with a price estimate that seemed fair to me for emergency short-notice service on a Saturday night.  Todd replaced the entire section of pipe from the sink drain to the stack and was finished and out the door by 7:30, leaving us with a fully functional kitchen again.  <br /> Huge thanks to Patrick and Todd (and Nolan) who really saved the day for us.  These guys are absolute professionals and really saved us from some major inconvenience.  Would absolutely recommend and use them again. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Palmyra, IL

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
