"Rooftop did a fabulous job with this complex project. They took the time to walk us through its many facets and to help us figure out what we wanted in terms of the skylight replacement. All team members were courteous and responsive to our many questions. We were struck by the level of respect they showed each other, and us, and the genuine pride they displayed for each other's skills and work. Though this job required a huge outlay of money on our part, we had water leakage that needed to be solved, and we felt that the cost was reasonable and fair for the work that was required and the materials needed to do the job well. We are so happy with the results! The roof and skylights look terrific, and we are relieved to finally have our water leaks solved. We didn't know when we bought the house 20 years ago that the skylights had not been installed well, and what it would take to make it right! Thank you, Roof Top, for knowing what needed to be done."

"Joel Macbeth is fantastic! I will never let anyone touch my roof— part of it is ceramic and part of it is metal which he also installed and he installed the asphalt roof at our barn. He is a true pro. This guy knows his business and is also a great communicator. He comes when he says and is very reasonably priced. I will all contractors were exactly like him. Hire him! You will be glad you did. I give him an A+ in every category. Feel free to call me if you want more information. I have used Joel fir at least 15 years."

"I was a little nervous not using a big-name/corporatized roofer, but Damon's bid came in lowest of all and his reviews were excellent, so I gave him my business, and I'm glad I did. The crew worked their butts off - they had the main roof done in one day; incredible. Next day, Damon and his partner Shane came back and did all the detail work. The roof looks FANTASTIC and although it's only been a couple of months, I'm thrilled."

"I got three estimates for the job. Blue Ridge Roofing was clearly the best. What made them stand out was their professional inspection, helpful ideas for energy efficiency, sensitivity to our needs, their commitment to starting and finishing on time, their warranties, skills and knowledge. Bruce Martin did the estimate and provided advice. He came by to check on the progress of the job and always was responsive and dependable. The crew was outstanding. They were very considerate, careful, informative and efficient. They came when they said they would and completed the job on time working daily with no interruptions from other jobs. They also did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. For knowledge, professionalism and reliability they are hard to beat. We are very satisfied with our beautiful energy efficient metal roof. And it all came with a workmanship warranty of 5 years and the 35-year paint warranty the Galvalume roof. <br />"

"I have never had gutters on my home, so when Gutter Guys visited to do an estimate, they needed to look at the entire home, front and back. They gave me several options including only having the front of the home done, or having the entire house done in normal gutters. They also gave me prices for the cadillac of gutters which has the "GutterGard" which leaves no need for cleaning out the gutters. The idea of climbing a ladder a couple times a year was not inviting, and once they shared a payment plan with me, I was sold. They did the estimate and came back on the day they promised and on time. The work was done quickly, but very efficiently. They showed me what they were doing and how the installation would be done. Once finished they cleaned all their mess up and left me with great looking gutters! I would highly recommend the Gutter Guys! <br />"

"I'd met one of the WA Lynch Project Managers while operating my small business - he came to repair leaks in a skylight for my landlord in the warehouse space I leased.  I talked to him briefly about a potential leak I had in a skylight at my home and he gave me his card and said to get in touch.   <br /> Some time had passed but I eventually did just that - I called and left a message, then followed up with an email.   I received no response. <br /> Over the 2012 Christmas holidays the potential leak I had previously identified and discussed with the WA Lynch project manager turned from a potential leak into a 100% verifiable leak as water reached the interior of the house.  I immediately reached out via email not only to the project manager I contacted before, but also to 2 others listed on the company website - all via email as it was just a couple days after Christmas and I didn't know if offices would be open on regular hours.   <br /> The date today is January 15th - more than 2 weeks past my email message to the three project managers.  I've heard not a single peep from anyone at the company this entire time, all the way back from when I first reached out to the PM.  It's understandable that maybe my job wasn't large enough for them to consider a priority - and I noted it as much in my messages to them - but I asked if that was the case could they please refer me to someone who could handle the work quickly.  Still, not only no reply with a recommendation - simply no reply or acknowledgement of my contact at all. <br /> I just sent a message to the trio of project managers and the vice president of the company expressing my disappointment with their communication.   <br /> Who knows if I'll hear anything back at all.  At this point it doesn't matter - I found another company off of Angie's List (Roof Top Services) who responded the very next day after my first email and call, despite it being the holiday season.  They were kind, courteous, and promptly came to my home at the first available time we could arrange to look into the problem.  Not only did they diagnose the problem - they fixed it for free as it wasn't a major issue. <br /> Responding quickly and performing effectively at a great price - THAT is how you provide value and do business to gain a loyal customer.  Something I would have expected from WA Lynch considering I had met one of the PMs and he specifically told me to contact him.  Instead I had to go somewhere else.  A shame really. <br /> <br /> ***Updated my review from an F rating to a C rating overall...  I was admittedly upset when I wrote the review and it probably skewed the grade lower.  Since my issue was with their responsiveness/communication and follow-up and not their work (I found someone else to do the work) I decided to update the review.  Also note, I would assume after seeing the negative rating on Angie's List I received messages from the owner and project manager I had originally spoken with.  They were apologetic, but frankly based on the whole experience I will still go elsewhere when I need more work done."

"Sean and his partner Clarenceare very competent craftsmen dedicated to excellence and are like family, having known and worked together much of their professional life, and they higher and manage good speciality contractors. They encountered many challenges in the old construction which they resolved with resourcefulness and completely to our satisfaction. They are friendly and caring. The finished apartment is a work of art and we feel fortunate. In SLW we benefitted from a high-end builder but at an average price. SLW Construction has the high principles, competency, dedication and fair prices of small town businesses of the mid-twentieth century when quality of life was greater."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Palmyra, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
