"Recently we replaced our screened in porch and we are so glad to have had Marc and his crew on this project. We were referred to Homecraft Builders by friends who recently used the company to build a deck. Initially we were going to replace the existing structure but after reviewing options with Marc we decided to add an additional open area to the porch. Marc was “hands on” from our initial estimate and through the project. We appreciate that Marc walked us through the different stages of the project (tear down, rebuild, roofing) and was very communicative on how the crew was completing work. When decisions needed to be made on the job (where to put new stairs, fan installation), Marc walked us through the different options to ensure the finished product would meet our needs. We feel we made the right decision choosing Homecraft for the work and would recommend their services."

"They built us a 450 square foot TREX deck with a ramp from the garage and stairs down to the back yard. Our deck is approximately 10 feet above the ground. They are professional and personable. They did quality work and kept me informed of their schedule to include the inspectors schedule. The price was reasonable. We chose them to build our deck because they had done good work on replacing trim boards around windows, doors and garage doors and then painting trim work of entire outside of the house. They worked very closely with me to finalize the design prior to starting the building to ensure they understood what we wanted and made sure I understood any changes that had to be made to the design because of building code requirements. They also install a French patio door. We would definitely use them again."

"It was easy making an appointment. The office staff was helpful and I had a choice of days and times. Appointments are set for a 2-hour window and the technician called one-half hour before arriving.
Part of the work was covered by a local online coupon and part was a repair. The technician, David, was excellent. He was knowledgeable and competent at the job and was a pleasure to work with. I didn't know how he would solve the problem of the bracket, which was installed by another company. The replacement looks like it will last as longer than my house lol. The price charged was reasonable, and the work was done quickly and clean-up was perfect.
Needless to say, I will use ABC for any garage door work in the future.

"The initial estimate in August 2015 went very well.  We were very pleased with the quality we were getting and the quoted price.  The company was responsive and showed up on time to give us the estimate. From that point, however, we had difficulty at times communicating.  We did not hear back from the company regarding the status of our order and possible dates for scheduling the installation. When we finally heard from them in October, they left a message for us with a date of installation. I called and left a message to confirm the date, but they did not get our message.  Once they understood the mistake, they immediately rectified by making time for us as planned.
On the day of installation in October 2015, the lead installer showed up on time but they did not start work until about 11:00 am due to an issue with the window delivery/pick up. The installation went fine, and they appeared to be detailed and diligent in their work. However, we noticed part way through there was a mistake in the order, and one window was ordered without grids. Unfortunately, the installation went very late (they did not finish until about 9 pm) due to complications with the big picture window at the very end, which was not started until nearly 7 pm.  Consequently, they completed the work on the large picture window in the dark and cleaned up outside in the dark.  They were unable to wrap a side window that was not part of the installation, but which they agreed to wrap when we had our estimate.  We were told they would come back and finish cleaning up when they came back to swap the window out for the correct one, clean off black marks on the interior of the windows, and complete the wrapping of the additional window.  The next morning, we completed the clean up ourselves outside.  We were pleased with the installation and the quality of the windows. However, we noticed a dent in the aluminum border surrounding the big picture window above our front door, probably inadvertently caused due to the lack of visibility in completing the work in the dark.  We communicated that to the company in writing and by phone.  We were told it would be taken care of by the installer. Within a few weeks, the installer came back and installed the correct window pane, but did not have the materials to wrap the additional window or fix the dent above the front door. It has now been over five months, and we have had multiple instances when we were told the installer was coming only to either not have him show up or have him reschedule.
I have contacted the company multiple times, most recently two weeks ago, when we were told by the general manager the installer had just picked up the materials and would be contacting us to take care of it.  After more than a week, the installer contacted us to say he would be by on the weekend to take care of it. Once agin, he had not shown up or communicated to us regarding the schedule.
We were very pleased with some aspects of our experience but extremely displeased by the lack of responsiveness, the feeling of being bounced around to various members of the company, and the fact that they did not complete what they said they would or fix the dent above our front door caused by the installation. When I have spoken to the general manager or the installer, they are always very polite and  professional.  I just wish these interactions were followed up by action.  Our issue remains unresolved more than five months after installation.

"American Windows & Siding of VA replaced 40-year-old windows and sliding glass doors in my condo. Gary performed the original assessment and provided me with the lowest estimate from four top rated vendors on Angi.com. The crew came out after my windows and doors arrived in their shop and in seven hours installed everything and cleaned up. The products manufactured by ProVia are beautiful and the installation outstanding. Jack visited me a couple of weeks later for follow-up and, like those who preceded him, was extremely professional and courteous. I highly recommend this company because of the outstanding job it performed in installing high quality windows and doors!"

I believe the project went well.  It's not to say there wasn't any hiccups but it is great to have a contractor like Dan and the professionals, Tony and Marlon, who perform the majority of the work during the install. Dan was very professional in his design and initial introductory meeting.  He meet with us at our house to take measurements and talk design/layout.  We had contacted Dan a few years prior and he was honest in his assessment about the project cost before engaging us in budgetary discussions.  We delayed the project for a few years because of this assessment and  a few years later we engaged several contractors but felt most comfortable with Dan, his process, and pricing.

Dan comes out measures and assesses the current layout of your design project and the changes you may want to incorporate into it. After the initial measurement you meet with Dan at his design studio where he shows a couple of layouts based on your earlier conversations.  You then go through the process select the design elements that best fit your budget and style. After you have made your selections he presents you with a quotation.  We never felt pressured during this process and Dan made cost saving recommendations and listened to our input.   He presented us with fairly priced options for flooring, cabinets, counter-tops, and some exceptional pricing and options on our appliances.  We signed the contract and Dan explained the Md law about having a grace period before the contract actually becomes official.  Dan also was willing to delay the project by a few weeks while we traveled and adjusted to a newborn.

Tony (project manager) and Marlon were assigned to our remodel.  Dan subcontracted out the flooring work and countertop work but the majority of the work was done by Tony and Marlon.  Dan does regular site visits to monitor the project progression and help out.  All in all the installation went smoothly but the work schedule can be a little odd.  Tony commutes from Virginia so he likes to get an early start and work late.  He works a few days on and usually takes one off.  This can be a little unorthodox for those looking for a installer that arrives as you leave for work and is gone be the time you get home.  I will say that this in no way slowed down the process and the schedule worked well for us.  Marlon was there almost everyday so work does progress while Tony might not be onsite.  Tony performed most of the leveling, cabinet install, wiring, plumbing while Marlon did a wonderful job with the wall repairs painting and I am sure a boat load of other things that I am unaware of.  Tony really took his time and is very good at his craft.  I can't say enough about those two.

The install progressed in a timely manner and was within the schedule (there were some weather delays, but hey it was December). I wish I could say everything progressed perfectly but as I mentioned before there were a few issues.  This is the point where you as the consumer can be directly involved and active in the process.  First, the cabinet knob order was incorrect.  The vendor sent the knobs that we selected for the lower cabinets for the upper cabinets and vice-verse.  Tony noticed that something was odd and consulted with us prior to drilling the holes for the install.  I didn't catch the problem initially but my spouse caught the issue and it was corrected prior to any holes being drilled and potentially delaying of the project.

Next, we did have concerns with the job the sub-contractor who installed the counter-top did.  We had Silestone installed which is a quartz composite material.  It's about as costly as mid-priced granite and much nicer than Corian.  Because it is a manufactured material you can order colors that you might not be able to get in natural stone.  In this case we wanted a marble look.  Marble is a very soft stone which is prone to wear and staining.  However, we were not satisfied with the install.  The pass through was poorly cut and we had issues with one of the corners of the counter top that wasn't square.  Also, there was some staining of the material.  This is when it is great to have a proactive contractor like Dan.  He had them remove and replace the pass through which looked great in the end.  He brought out a repair man to evaluate the corner and work on removing the stain.  He did a pretty good job in removing the stain (there is still a light discoloration to my spouse but I can't see it).  When we weren't satisfied with his response on the non-square corner (the repair guys thought was to just live with it), Dan engaged the manufacture rep and gave us the option to repair or replace).  We didn't want to go throught the hassle of replacement so we asked for a repair.  This is were the Silestone installer got it right.  The ground the corner to square and the issue was resolved.

Lastly, GE had redesigned the appliances that we selected and the new layout of the kitchen with an appliance dimension change didn't allow for the dishwasher to fully open when the oven was in place.  This is an understandable mistake, due to an unknown dimension change, but one you hope the designer would catch prior to ordering the appliances.  To compound the problem the floors were installed while we were trying to resolve this issue.  The subcontractor installing the floors damaged the appliance leaving us without a usable range until a suitable replacement could be found or a repair (that was delayed because of back-ordered parts) could be made.  It did take some serious work by both Dan and ourselves to find a comparable replacement (considered swapping all of the units, mismatching the set but we were really happy with the GE profile series that was in our kitchen).  In the end we were able to find a range that matched our series that was installed.  Dan went above and beyond in recognizing the inconvenience and hassle that this caused us and resolved the issue that exceeded our expectations.

(Side note not associated with the install: we have had some minor issues with the GE appliances, every now in then the fridge water dispenser does not return when you stop filling your glass and water can continue to run; Also our microwave vents to the outside and the vent doesn't always deploy so the the microwave rattles and vents hot air and cooking odors back into our house; nothing AKC can do and we are addressing it with GE but information for those interested in the GE profile series).

We would definitely employ the services of Dan and his crew again.  Our kitchen remodel was a challenging experience and would have been even if everything went perfectly.  When things don't go as expected you want a contractor like Dan and the folks at AKC working for you.  We got exactly what we wanted in the craftmanship and overall look and design of our kitchen.  Additionally the subcontractor who installed our floors did a tremendous job.  The floors look great and the project wasn't rushed even with the accident.

I would say we are very satisfied and continue to get comments on how great the kitchen remodel looks.

"Elite responded promptly to my Angie's List post, and sent out a technician the same day. John, the technician, provided a thorough analysis of what was wrong with my door, and gave me three repair options to choose from. The other 2 companies to give me bids only spoke of the immediate problem with the door, not taking into account that the system operating it was over 20 years old. Had I chosen either of them, my door would have been operational, but because of its age, would no doubt be in need of additional service a few years down the road. While Elite's bid was the highest, I feel confident that I made the best choice in hiring them to repair my garage door. Not only was John professional, polite, and punctual, he very patiently explained the purpose and function of all the new hardware he installed, as well as how to keep the garage door opening and closing smoothly for years to come. And Elite's 10-year warranty was also a key selling point. All in all, I would highly recommend this company to anyone in need of this type of service. And I commend Elite for hiring quality employees like John. I couldn't be happier with the work he did."

FAQs for doors (interior) installation and replacement projects in Perryman, MD

If your existing frame is in good shape, you can replace an interior door without changing the frame. This is a budget-friendly option because it saves on the cost of removing and installing a new frame. By choosing a slab door that fits your current frame, you'll save on labor and materials. Just make sure the new door matches the old one's dimensions for a smooth replacement.

Standard interior doors are 80 inches tall and range from 28 to 32 inches wide. Interior doors vary from 24 to 36 inches wide, depending on their purpose and the available space. Building codes require interior doors to be at least 80 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Knowing standard sizes helps you select a new door that fits properly in your existing opening.

It costs $600 to $2,000 or more to move an inside door. The total price depends on your location, the type of door, and materials needed to complete the project. Moving an interior door requires walling up the leftover space and opening up a new wall where you want the door to go instead. You’ll also want to plan for the expense of framing the new wall opening and adding trim.

Exterior door installation costs an average of $1,175, with a typical range of $525 to $1,800. The higher expense compared to the cost of interior doors comes from the need for exterior doors to be weather-proofed and they are often made of thicker, more durable materials. The associated exterior hardware must also be able to withstand harsh weather, so these cost more as well.

It costs between $300 to $2,500 to make a doorway wider on average. However, the wider you need the space to be, the more it will cost. Some homeowners choose to widen interior doorways to make the house more wheelchair accessible. In order to be wheelchair accessible, an interior door needs to be at least 32 to 36 inches wide. Also, some older homes just have narrow doorways due to the nature of how homes were built differently many decades ago.

It takes between two to five hours for a professional door installer to install an interior door, depending on complexity and materials. A pre-hung door typically takes around two hours, and larger doors like double French doors can take up to five hours. If you’re doing the project yourself, expect it to take a little longer than that, especially if you have little to no experience completing this type of project. Keep in mind that a pre-hung door can be installed about an hour or two faster than a slab door.
