He did confirm that the price listed on my quote was for a 3-ton unit and provided a new number for the 2-ton unit, but I was left with a bad feeling over what would have happened if I hadn't received a competitive quote and questioned them. Also, the other company I dealt with talked with the Trane rep, and stated while the XL16C gas pack was available in a 2-ton unit, the hybrid unit (with gas furnace and heat pump) was not available in a 2-ton unit. This quote process was at the end of December, and they offered an extra $500 off if we would install before the end of the year. Would they have taken the money for a 3-ton unit and only delivered a 2-ton unit, or would they have realized the error when I went to pay and said 'we quoted you the wrong price'? If I ordered the hybrid unit and paid for a 2-ton unit, what would have been delivered? These could have been honest mistakes or not - I really have no way of knowing. In the end, I didn't feel comfortable with the way the quote process went, so I decided to go with another vendor."
