"Paul and his team were great. I was amazed at how quickly he came to my home and cleared the drain blockage in my bathroom tub. He was very pleasant to work with and knew exactly what he was doing. I would definitely recommend him to a friend - and his price was extremely reasonable. Thank you Paul."

"The reason I first hire them is to look at the boiler to reconnect the pipe so I can get it tested. The plumber came and he told me he does not do that work. They lock you in with the deposit and so you use it or loose it. The work that was done was okay. To reconnect two 1.5" drain pipes for $450.00 is a lot of crap. I would not hire anyone that would ask for a deposit, for it is the games that they play. Use it and they still charge you more for the job."

"Bob and Joey, from Total Mechanical Systems, had to come out to our home, 2 days in a row, to help us with a severe basement flooding situation. Water was coming up through the basement floor drains at a very rapid rate. Bob and Joey responded to our first EMERGENCY call on 3/1/18, when we found out that our saturated and clogged drainage system had failed. They took care of re-routing the drainage system to alleviate that problem. On 3/2/28, Bob and Joey came to our home, again, for our follow up EMERGENCY call. This was a Friday, and they were busy, and tired from the week, but they rushed out to our home, in the nasty rain/snow storm, that we were having, to re-route and drain the "river" that was now flowing beneath our home. They had to jackhammer through our basement concrete, while re-routing water from their dig site, in order to get a pit for a super sump pump installed. They handled the project professionally, and with ease, always positive and cheerful, during the whole project. Needless to say, the whole project turned out perfectly, and our furnace and entire basement were saved from the flooding conditions. If you want the BEST in caring service, you can feel safe hiring Total Mechanical Systems for any of your needs."

FAQs for drain clog or blockage clearing projects in Plymouth, CT

Snaking a simple clog near a tub, toilet, or sink often takes about five minutes. Deeper blockages along the main line can stretch the job to a few hours because the pro must feed extra cable and may need a camera to confirm the pipe is clear. Either way, specialized tools help pros work quickly and keep your drains running for the long haul.

Aggressive snaking can scratch pipes, push debris deeper, or even crack older lines. That risk is low with an experienced plumber who matches the cable size to the pipe and eases the snake through bends instead of forcing it. If you’re unsure of your technique—or your pipes are already fragile—calling a licensed pro is the safest, and often cheapest, move.

Start with simple barriers: mesh screens on every tub, shower, and sink keep hair, food bits, and jewelry out of the pipes. Skip harsh chemicals; a monthly flush with hot (not boiling) water clears light buildup without damaging plastic lines. Finally, practice smart disposal—no grease, wipes, or kitty litter down the drain—and schedule routine cleanings if you have older plumbing.

Roto‑Rooter typically charges a flat $160 to $450 for standard snaking, which may include a quick sewer inspection and basic clean‑out. Exact pricing depends on the clog’s location and complexity. Repairs or part replacements fall outside that flat fee, so ask for a line‑item estimate if your tech spots broken pipe sections or recommends additional work.

Most liquid cleaners rely on caustic chemicals that eat through hair and grime—but they also erode metal and even some plastics over time. Repeated use strips protective pipe coatings and can leave you with leaks or premature failures. If hot water or a plunger doesn’t help, call a plumber for mechanical removal instead of pouring more chemicals down the line.
