"every single aspect of my dealing with tony (the owner) is superb! we set up an appointment for him to come to my home and provide an estimate and while he was there he took his time to answer my many many questions about the job. i really enjoyed that he was in no hurry, i had all his attention, and i was impressed by his knowledge. have you ever had someone come out for an estimate of whatever it is, and you can tell they are in a hurry and they have other places to be....etc. etc. not tony.....great first impression! after we talked and he showed me what and how he wanted to do.....within what i wanted done, he gave me an estimate and i agreed to have him do the work. because of the weather it took 2-3 weeks for him to finally make it out to do the job. during this time, tony and i were in communication and he made sure i knew what was happening as far as scheduling was concerned. great communication! also, tony is the guy that runs the job. he does not sub out the job and he does not send out a crew to do the work. tony was there every step of the way and he was working getting everything done and directing his guys......important to me. the final product is awesome......just as we discussed. one of my neighbors is a retired contractor and he and i were talking a few days after tony and his crew had finished our job and when i asked my neighbor his opinion of the work done, he said it was top notch! i mean i could already tell it was excellent, and it is fun to hear an expert confirm my opinion. overall...outstanding experience.....this is your guy if you need anything done with concrete!!"

"We had a good experience working with the owner Troy and the Kali team. The price was competitive and Troy came to the site to provide the price quote and answer any questions. On the installation date, the team arrived on time, was professional and did a great job. I had a similar price quote for another larger firm. "I especially appreciated the fact that Don gave me a lot of good suggestions and gave me options (I really was not sure exactly what I wanted -- just that I wanted to replace the tub with a shower.) And I was limited in what I could do because I have an extemely tiny bathroom. Don gave me the pros and cons of various choices -- for example, we can do X and it will let us finish the job in just a day or two, but it will up the price by $x. At one point, the white seat that I originally wanted inside the shower had been discontinued and I had to choose a different color. I chose caramel and Don suggested changing the grout to more of a brown color to go better with the seat and that turned out great! The project took a while (8 days) due mostly to the fact that they had to let each layer of concrete dry before moving on, with one more day delay caused by having to order a new seat color with matching grout. They did a great job and I am extremely happy with the final result!"

"We did not have to completely replace the side staircase or redo the basement entrance for both instances. They were able to rein-enforce, repair and resurface these deteriorated and previously moss covered and crumbling concrete areas. It was handled in 1.5 days. Very professional, kind and capable employees. Left the sight very clean and did a spectacular job on the repairs. The areas look like new entrances. Very well done! The price was great as well. He seemed knowledgeable and business like so I hired him. When his crew came to do the work, he introduced me to the workers who would be doing the actual installation including one of his sons. He made sure when the introductions were made; his son gave me a good firm handshake and looked me straight in the eye. As the mother of four children I was impressed with the way Jon was teaching business communication skills to his child.

My property in Minnetonka is built on soil that has a large clay component. This factor has caused many problems for homeowners in my area because the instability of the land. Pietig and Sons carefully prepared the underlying surface. Within a year, two small sections were not weathering well and had cracked. Jon came to take a look, determined that what was happening was unacceptable and not up to his standards. He replaced them – at no cost to me.

The person doing the replacement work did a masterful job of removing the damaged sections, properly preparing the area and then calling for a cement mixer truck delivery when he was ready to install the concrete. When the large truck arrived he carefully used a wheelbarrow to deliver the concrete to the area and carefully blended the sections together. All seemed perfect.

Something strange happened within a few years. The sections that had been replaced were not holding up well. A concrete company, doing work for another homeowner in my area, came to take a look. He admired the work that had been done and complimented the skill of the craftsman who had done the job. Then he asked a question. He inquired about the concrete supplier and asked if I remembered the name on the truck that had delivered the product? He then proceeded to tell me a story that was the basis for his question and explained what he was sure was happening.

He told me he had once been a foreman on a huge concrete product for a hotel parking lot. Several years after the installation of the lot, the concrete began to chip and flake. The hotel’s attorneys filed a lawsuit against his company to recover the money they had paid him. They claimed the work he had done was inferior. He had worked h****** that project, was proud of the work he had done and was personally devastated because his skill and honesty had been called into question. After a lengthy investigation, it was determined shale had been added to the concrete mix delivered for his project. This had caused the driveway to “pop” and disintegrate. Claims and damages filed against the supplier were eventually settled and his work was vindicated. Sure enough, it was the same large concrete supplier that had delivered the product to my home. Shale “pops” were also evident in those two apron sections that had been replaced.

Even though those sections had already been replaced once, when Jon reviewed some photos I sent to him and heard the story about the other company’s experience, he said, “We will replace those sections again. It is the morally correct thing to do – I stand by my work.” He was also gracious enough to say that because the cement supply contractor was so large, it is not always possible to monitor every worker and batch of concrete mix. He realized that even in the finest companies, bad things could happen. What separates Jon’s thinking from others is his resolve to take responsibility and do right by his clients. If only his ethical standards could be taught to every business owner and to every business student!
