In 4 weeks, Anthony's crew updated 2.5 baths, refinished wood floors, painted the whole interior of the house, installed barn doors, updated the fireplace, replaced staircase banisters, built a built-in bookcase and shelves--- and fixed many random things in the house (wonky door knobs/ bad lighting/ etc.) Despite the short turn around, the craftsmanship was on point. They worked tirelessly, did not take short cuts and took the time to do the prep work necessary for a job that would last. We are very happy with the finished product and feel confident that we can be here for the next 15 years and not have to worry about anything breaking. A bonus was that Anthony and his men made the effort to work discreetly(were respectful of neighbors, no loud music or smoking) and also neatly (the work site was always clean, safe and organized.) He is also very knowledgeable and gave me pointers on design and function (random things that someone moving from the city would not think of.) He came and looked at the kitchen and bathroom, he stated that he will do everything and that everything was included, he came me a place to go and place an order for cabinets and bathroom supplies, I went and then he came back to take measurements and then stated that I would have to buy everything myself, then I said no just do the bathroom and gave him a check for 30,000. He never sent the kitchen layout and when my family looked over the contract, he stated that he had to remove counter tops and there were none to remove and the work that he was going to do was not what he stated. For a DIY interior door installation, you'll need basic tools including a tape measure, level, power drill with various bits, screwdriver set, hammer, utility knife, and shims. You might also need a saw for trimming the door if necessary, sandpaper for smoothing edges, and a chisel for creating hinge mortises. Having a helper makes the job considerably easier, especially when positioning and holding the door during installation.
When measuring for a replacement door, determine whether you need just the door slab or a pre-hung unit that includes the frame. For a slab door, measure the width, height, and thickness of your existing door. For a pre-hung door, measure the width and height of the rough opening (from stud to stud and floor to header). Also note the swing direction—whether the door opens to the left or right when facing it from the outside of the room.
