"We had an old shingle roof removed and replaced with a new metal seamless roof. We also had our chimney removed, and gutters replaced. Our project manager was very responsive and upfront about the entire process. It ended up being about 4 days of work, and photos were taken throughout the process to show any additional damages and repairs. I feel Precise did an honest, thorough, respectful and quality job. The new roof and gutters look amazing. We are very satisfied with the work."

"I was very pleased with the entire process of having my roof replaced. AJB work worked with us to choose the right shingles, even giving us a list of house to see what the different shingles look like on a roof. Installation went very smoothly, and they did a great job of cleaning up after the installation. They came out promptly after the roof was completed to address a couple minor issues."

"From the first call back to the final walk through the folks at On Tops Roofing were professional and easy to work with. We had checked other roofers and had good impressions of them but decided on On Tops Roofing for multiple reasons including price and how quickly they were able to start the work. We asked for some items that weren't in the original quote and they agreed to all of our requests with no reluctance at all. The project manager was very responsive and easy to work with. The only issue I had was some wood siding was damaged when they had to pull it from the house to install step flashing. The siding was old and needed to be replaced anyway so the damage just prompted us to move that project up on our priority list. All in all, we're very happy with the work that was done and would recommend them to anyone who needs roofing work performed."

"<p>I was very impressed with Tom.  I had actually called him out and he gave me an estimate 3 years ago, but I decided that we really didn't have the money and just filed away the report.  When the shingles on my roof started flying off every other week, I knew the time had come to replace the roof whether I waned to or not as the roof was almost 25 years old.</p> <p>I got quotes from an independent roofer who I don't remember, Baker Roofing, and Tom Buzzard.  The independent roofer gave me the cheapest price, but made me nervous as he said a lot of things, but didn't put anything in writing.  Baker Roofing was really good, but they were a little more expensive than Tom and I really liked Tom's manner when he came out to explain what they would do. Both Baker and Buzzard left me full brochures and explanations, but in the end I went with Tom.</p> <p>He was very responsive with me especially with email.  A little more so with email than the phone as he was fairly busy, but email went well.  He was eager to start the job as at the time his crews didn't have much to do.  Once they began, they did a very, very good job.  Tom stopped by almost every day to make sure things were on progress.</p> <p>His crew worked very efficiently, and even worked Saturday and Sunday to get the job done on time due to rain halfway through the job.  I told him one extra day was fine with us, but he said his crew wanted to finish for us.</p> <p>They cleaned up very well when they left.  We have found a few nails here and there, but for the size of the roof and the quantity of materials that had to be replaced, it is a lot less than I would have imagined.</p> <p>Not knowing much about roofing, I was very happy with the entire process and would definitely recommend Buzzard to others.</p> <p><br /></p> <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Raleigh, NC

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
